An achievement of a lifetime
For as long as I can remember, I have always excelled in sports. The major reason for this is my consistent participation in various sports since childhood, particularly football and cricket. I have always been an active member of the squad, whether in school, my local area, any institute I have studied at, or even in my dental school. My dedication to sports has not only honed my skills but also instilled discipline, teamwork, and resilience in me. Engaging in competitive matches and training sessions has shaped me into a well-rounded athlete, allowing me to perform at my best and contribute significantly to any team I have been a part of.
When I stepped into dental school six years ago as a freshie, I had one thing on my mind—I wanted to make a name for myself. It’s only natural for boys, isn’t it? Young and carefree, eager for recognition. But recognition doesn’t come without hard work, so I set out to earn it. What better way to stand out than by excelling in sports or academics? My path was clear—I had to make my mark in sports.
With that goal in mind, I threw myself into every sport available. Cricket, football, volleyball—if there was a team, I was on it. Confidence was never an issue for me. Even if I wasn’t naturally good at a particular sport, I worked tirelessly until I was.
Years went by, but despite our best efforts, we never made it past the semifinals in any tournament. Still, I kept pushing forward. Then, in my final year, something remarkable happened—I was elected as the Joint Secretary of the entire dental department. A huge honor, but an even bigger responsibility. By this time, I had also become the captain of the dental department’s football, cricket, and volleyball teams.
I knew this was my last chance. My final year. If I didn’t give it my absolute best now, I’d spend the rest of my life with regrets. So, I made sure that every single student under me gave their hundred percent, because this time, it was now or never
And then it happened. All at once. Boys and girls. The dental department wreaked havoc under my leadership. We dominated the competition, bagging 21 medals and 8 trophies. Every major sport fell to us, except for boys’ cricket. In that final, we fought hard, but victory slipped just out of reach—we were runners-up. I was the captain, and though the loss stung, my disappointment didn’t last long.
Because we had won something even greater.
For the first time in our medical school’s history, the Dental Department claimed the House Cup. Forty years had passed without so much as a close glimpse of it, and then, suddenly, it was ours. It was mine.
I still have it in my bedroom, a reminder that sometimes, history isn’t made slowly. Sometimes, it happens all at once.
I could never take full credit for what happened that year because I know exactly who made the difference. It was the girls.
One of them alone bagged nine medals. They dominated every arena, winning the football, cricket, throwball, and badminton tournaments. The boys fought hard, finishing as runner-ups in both cricket and football, and I managed to claim a medal in the FIFA tournament.
It was a frenzy. The entire medical school was in shock. No one had seen it coming, not from us, not like this. And then, as if to mark the moment in history, I was called to the Principal’s office.
Not for a reprimand, but for recognition.
A token of appreciation. A medal of honor.
We had rewritten the rules, shattered expectations, and left a legacy that wouldn’t be forgotten....
What strikes me again and again is that you are involved in team sports in all the sporting activities you describe. When travelling, on the other hand, you like to go alone... Do you have any idea why that is?

Interesting question. I think it's my nature of leading whatever situation I'm in. It comes natural to me but it comes with a lot of responsibilities such as leading, setting an example, filling my mates with motivation and passion.
During traveling, I like to take out time for myself. To be truly free. In my hectic life I only get a few days to my own so I run away from responsibilities as I want to spend my time being as relaxed as I can, going to places that I like not keeping in consideration what other people want or think. Do I make sense to you?
