Desert Rose

Last week I went to visit my brother. He lives in a town some 120 Kms. from me. But you have to pass a small mountain range to get to this valley and the climate is completely different. First of all it is incredibly hot and dry during the day and it gets quite cool in the early hours, like a desert.

Well I went out to the yard and I saw this beautiful flower. I frankly did not know its name and it is just now that I learned its name is Desert Rose. It frankly is a very pretty flower, even to me who am practically never aware of flowers (or cats). Sharp colors and a very defined shape. And apparently it iis also poisonous. Its sap can cause problems to skin. So there you go, beautiful things can sometimes be dangerous.

The funny thing is, I went back inside after taking this pictures and went inside. When I came back out the flower was no longer there, as you can see. It occurred to me that it could be one of those flowers that opens during the day and shuts down when the sun sets. But I could not find anything like that on Google. Lucky I did not go searching for it, I probably would have gotten burned. I am still puzzled as to what happened to it.

I certainly could not see it on the ground and nobody had gone to the yard to cut it. The only other thing I can think of is a bird taking it, but birds probably know it is poisonous. I guess I am going to be trying to figure out what happened for a long time. But still, it was nice seeing this flower. And it is proper that this flower should go in a place that is quite close to being a desert.
