Dugouts in Nesterovo and Prokopovo

There will be a little less posts with dugouts now, at least until the middle of summer. It's all about the light of the white nights, which turns night photography into twilight.

While the nights were still dark, I managed to go back to the Sokolsky district, which I loved, in particular, the Kharovsky direction.

In the village of Nesterovo there are a few dugouts that stand somewhere in the center of the village between the streets.

The cellar town here was much larger, but only three dugouts remained.

By the way, there was an article about the cellars in the newspaper with my pictures and my comment.

It says that the cellars are the descendants of the barns.

And I found out the reason for their presence or absence in any area.

It's all about serfdom – there was no serfdom in the eastern regions, and basements for storing vegetables were allowed in houses.

There were separate cellars in the central and western regions of the region, as well as cellar towns.

The dugouts were placed away from residential buildings for fire safety purposes. If all the houses in the village burn down, the harvest will remain intact.

Now I can formulate exactly what I'm photographing: the cellar towns.

I am not interested in individual dugouts, as most of them are located on a closed private territory.

But clusters have always looked mystical.

There are two places in Prokopovo where there are cellars.

In both places, the cellars are in working order, but it is clear that there were more of them than there are now.
