The Move

in WORLD OF XPILAR3 months ago (edited)

Can house moves ever be stress-free? Even if your new home is just around the corner of the street...? In the past few days, I have realized the answer is no.

We are thrilled to finally have a bigger space considering our current domestic circumstances. However, it's like a lingering sword on our heads until we finally make the move and vacate the current home. We can't just pick up our stuff and dump it into the new place. It needs a boatload of maintenance work.

Among everything, I'm also entertaining guests. Took the kid gang for quad-biking.

I have never seen a termite infestation as severe as in our new home. Half of the kitchen cabinets, drawers in bedrooms, and door frames - are all swarmed with these nasty mites. Design and space-wise, the house is perfect for our family, and there are no other serious issues with it except termites.

We have literally bathed the crime zones with all kinds of mite sprays and coated some areas with paints, like the insides of cupboards. I will now have to keep a check on the growth every other week if somebody can remind me. Hopefully, it won't come back anytime soon.

The house has been white-washed, doors have been painted, and the floor has been cleaned. Some new wood work has also been done where termites ate up everything and left the wood structures completely hollow.

Last week, we ordered vinyl flooring from another city whose delivery was delayed due to heavy rainfall. Thankfully, it has finally arrived. Otherwise, we would have to shift without it and move all the furniture again a few days later to install it.

One problem is resolved, and another is ready to raid. Now the vinyl is here, we can't find a flooring guy. The last guy did a pathetic job, I don't want him to even touch it again. Although he's the Jack of all trades and has been doing all the electrical work around the house in which he's pretty good.

It's been 2 days, but we can't find a professional to do it - disadvantages of living in a remote setup. There was a moment, I thought to do it myself. But it passed as quickly as it came and that was for good because I already have a lot (like a lot) on my plate right now and my weak back and knees won't allow it.

And guess what? We are going to get it done by the same previous guy as he's confident that he can do it perfectly now after realizing what went wrong last time.

Next on the agenda are moving wardrobe items and later on less important kitchen stuff. I have to do this tomorrow at all costs. I'm already far behind the schedule.

It's been crazy here. I have written this text in 3 days. There's no time for anything. I think I will pass out before hitting Publish again.

A little out of the context but I want to show you a bunch of mushrooms that appeared out of nowhere in our current residence. They look beautiful.

I've moved so many times I can't even count them. It was always stressful, sometimes I even carried by hand, on public transport or on foot, from one end to the other of a big city when I didn't have someone available to help me with a car. But here there is one difference - I have never moved very bulky things - furniture for example, because I don't own any. That's why I haven't experienced this stress.
You had to photograph the termite infested furniture before you sprayed and painted it. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that. Hope they don't infect your other furniture!
I wish you an easy completion of the whole process!

I even carried by hand, on public transport or on foot,

Even thinking about this is giving me stress.

In my case, there is furniture involved, a lot of kitchen stuff and then there is kids' stuff in which I have no say. But on the bright side I don't have to do it alone.

I completely forgot about taking the pictures. And guess what, I saw some regrowth today. It's been only 4 days. 😒

Now take a picture, for next post or something, treat it again and hopefully it won't grow back anymore 🙏

I scraped it off already but I will take a picture if it appears again.

Ha ha 😂, ok. Let's hope a photo opportunity doesn't come up further, then!

Yes... let's hope. 😅

Moving is just awful and utterly stressful, no matter whether it's across a continent, or down the street.

I have moved more times than I care to think about, and none of those moves were stress-free, even one I was able to make where professional movers were supposed to "handle everything."

Your termite problem sounds just horrible... and the little buggers can totally demolish the woodwork of a place. I hope you managed to get them truly under control. I don't know if they do this in your corner of the world, but in severe cases, I have seen professional extermination crews literally wrap an entire house in plastic and set off huge "foggers" inside and you have to leave for 48 hours... ugh.

Anyway, wishing you a safe and peaceful move!

You are right about everything. I have also moved countless times from one corner of the country to another and sometimes down the street. I have packed everything myself and have aslo hired professional movers. It has always been stressful, awful and exhausting.

I hope you managed to get them truly under control.

It doesn't look like. Those nasty creatures appeared again in one cupboard today. 😶

wrap an entire house in plastic and set off huge "foggers" inside and you have to leave for 48 hours.

Haven't heard about this in my corner of the world. For now, I will use anti-termite solutions regularly. At some point, they will have to retreat. 😆

A move brings with it a change. You simply exchange one problem with the other and good things with the others. But trust me, space is everything. You just have to adapt because with time, you will begin to love your new space. Those mushrooms looks good, are they edible?

space is everything.

That's the only motivating factor in all this. 🤣

Those mushrooms looks good, are they edible?

I don't know. But my son said, he saw white gills at the bottom and apparently that means there's poison...? I'm not a mushroom expert though.

I can testify to that, house moving is very stressful because there's a lot of planning, arranging and cleaning to be done at a limited timeframe. Wishing you luck in the new location.

Oh yes, this limited time frame is another problem. Sometimes, I'm like, let's do it in a day and just get done with it but then when I see the amount of work, I start wishing to have a month to make a smooth and stress-free move.

Moving home is definitely one of the most stressful life events.

#luckyhouse

No doubt. I have done it multiple times but I'm never going to get used to it. It feels particularly daunting this time because most of our energy and time are going into taking care of a family member who's bedridden due to a fracture. At the end of the day, there's very little that we are able to do about the move. Anyhoo, we have to vacate the current house in two days as it's already too late. So, fingers crossed.

I do hope the new house is lucky for us and offers peace and comfort.

Assallam o alaikum Sis, hope you're doing well! It's been a while since your last post. Everything okay?

Walaikum Assalam. I'm fine, Alhamdulillah. A little exhausted, perhaps more than exhausted. There was a lot going on this week - shifting, guests, mil's surgery, farewell event and curation. I sat down to write something today... let's see if I can finish it before bedtime.

I'm fine, Alhamdulillah

Glad to hear that! Hopefully, you'll be back to your old self soon. Take it easy, rest & recharge. Good luck with your writing today

Yes, even if it is sometimes very tired, but the world is still very beautiful, the key is discovery

Ok.

"Very nice experience."

"How?"

"Wow, what a stressful but exciting time you're going through! 😅 I can feel the excitement for your new home, despite all the challenges that come with it. It's great to see you documenting every step of this journey, and I'm loving the updates on the house's transformation! 🏠💪

Those termites though... 😳 What a nightmare! But it sounds like you're taking care of them. And yay for the vinyl flooring finally arriving! 🎉 Fingers crossed that the next guy does a great job with the installation.

I'm so glad you shared those beautiful mushroom photos too! They're stunning! 🍄🌿
