Comet catchers - Writing competition "146" based on my digital image. Now you are the author of "A Place in Space 2"
Comet catchers.
On a small planet that was once teeming with life the lights of the mooring masts began to dim as the colonists' work activity slowed significantly.
It used to be pretty good, everyone had something to do and no one cared that they would suddenly be bored with something because the transport traffic with Earth was very active.
But on one gray day everything changed.
A notice came about a change of government and the space program was decided to be curtailed due to the inappropriateness of the economic situation of Earth.
The robotic factories of the planetoid for the production of crystal stepladders which were in demand throughout the galaxy stopped...
You know when there are a lot of colonists a lot of construction, and therefore where they do repairs, stepladders are needed guest workers, who know this well, appreciated the lightweight construction of these stepladders.
There was enough praviant on the planetoid enough for many centuries but with water reserves, which space tankers stopped delivering it would not last long.
Sam, an engineer servicing hydroponic systems was one of the first to learn this news and it saddened him.
Like most of the inhabitants of the colony he fell into depression.
There was sadness on the faces of people and a constant question - how can they live without water?
Sam had not left his cabin for several days and spent all his time with his nose buried in the aquarium the only thing that reminded him of his home planet and sadly watched as oxygen bubbles rose from the air diffuser lying on the bottom to the surface of the water in the aquarium.
He followed the rising air bubbles with his eyes and suddenly something made him shake his head there was something that looked like a solution to their problems.
Sam saw how the air bubbles were trapped on the mesh leaves of the Madagascar aponageton a plant living in his aquarium and they gathered there in clusters.
Sam grabbed a pencil and began to quickly sketch something on the paper, and hours passed at work.
Aponageton leaves essentially resemble numerous stepladders stacked next to each other.
When the inhabitants of the colony saw Sam the next time, they did not recognize him he had grown a ford, and his hair touched his shoulders but there was no sadness in his eyes his eyes were burning with fire and he had a heavy bundle of some plans under his arm.
Sam ran into the radio room and announced a general meeting of the colonists.
An hour later everyone gathered in the spacious hall of the colony council where Sam's plans were laid out on a huge oval table.
When the noise in the hall died down Sam picked up the microphoto and announced: Friends, we have a solution to the problem of delivering water to the planetoid and the structure of the leaves of the aponageton and production capacity will allow us to build comet catchers consisting of water and oxygen, using structures in the form of perforated leaves of this plant.
After one stellar cycle the planetoid became a source of water and oxygen for all the colonies forgotten by Earth.
