Is the wild World cruel? Predator and prey
Greetings friends.
The world of wild animals and birds is cruel. I've heard that expression more than once. But I think otherwise.
The cruelest creature in this world is Human. Humans can be evil for their own pleasure, but predators from the wild World can be "cruel" only because they need to find food for themselves and their children.
For example, I often watch a hawk fly to the bird feeder outside my window and hunt small birds. I even witnessed how he deftly grabs the bluebirds with his sharp claws and carries them off into the forest.
By the way, in this photo, the hawk is holding a small blue bird. Everything happened quickly, but interestingly, the hawk crouched under a tree with its prey. During this time, I managed to pick up a camera and took several photos. The hawk looked at me and wasn't afraid of me. It was at the end of December 2021. Since then, I have often seen this bird.

When a hawk arrives, the small birds fly apart and the predator takes advantage of this, he grabs them on the fly with his paws. Sometimes birds fly to my window and if they bang their heads hard against the glass, they fall into the snow. This season I have already resuscitated 3 tits in this way. But I couldn't save the bullfinch.
There was a chickadee yesterday. I lifted her out of the snow, she fell headfirst into the snow and couldn't get out on her own. She didn't try to pull away from my hand. She turned her head, looked at me, and clutched my finger tightly with her paws.
She has very sharp prehensile claws.

On frosty days, I took the shell-shocked birds home to sit in the warmth and gain strength.
Yesterday, the air temperature was about 0 degrees, so I didn't take the little bird into the house but put it in the feeder. I saw that she was sitting well enough. I watched her from the window for about 20 minutes. She sat in one place, turning her head. I was even worried about her. But the bird flapped its wings and flew to another place.
A couple of years ago in the spring, I discovered 2 bullfinches lying under the window. Apparently, they bump their heads more violently, lose consciousness, and die in the cold snow. It is sad.
I wanted to say that the hawk is not cruel, but nature has arranged it so that it needs to catch other birds to maintain its life.
Friends, I hope that my birds will interest you and I will definitely show them to you many more times in the future.
Friends, thank you for your attention.
