In this post you can see some photographs that I took a few months ago of the Torre San Michele in Cervia. Cervia is a town bathed by the Adriatic Sea located on the Romagna coast.

Information
This tower is located in the historic center of Cervia. According to some historical reconstructions it seems that it was built between 1689 and 1691. The basic idea of ​​this tower, when it was built, was that this building had to help defend the city from the Turks and Saracens.
This tower is certainly one of the most significant historical monuments of Cervia. When in 1709 Cervia also became a large commercial center for salt, this Tower continued to have an even more important defensive function, as it was also a lookout for any raids that could occur inside the salt warehouses.
The tower is an architectural expression of that period where most of the buildings with the purpose of defense were built with a quadrangular plan. At the time it stood out for its grandeur as it is about 20 meters high.
The positioning of this tower was extremely important at the time as it is located in the city's canal port very close to the large complex of salt storage warehouses.

Thoughts
When I looked at this Tower I thought not only of its beauty, but also of its historical importance. Indeed, once, when modern technology was not even imaginable, this tower was a guarantee against enemy factions and salt predators. In short, once it was much more than what it is today.

Conclusions
Today the Torre San Michele of Cervia combines historical value and defensive function of the past with an almost unique cultural and tourist importance. A building that not many people know, but as soon as you arrive in Cervia, on the canal port, it is certainly the first thing a tourist notices.

In questo post potete vedere delle fotografie che ho scattato qualche mese fa alla Torre San Michele di Cervia. Cervia è un paese bagnato dal Mar Adriatico situato sulla costa romagnola.

Informazioni
Questa torre si trova nel centro storico di Cervia. Secondo alcune ricostruzioni storiche sembra che sia stata costruita tra il 1689 ed il 1691. L’idea di base di questa torre, quando fu costruita, era che questo edificio doveva aiutare la difesa della città da turchi e saraceni.
Questa torre è certamente uno dei monumenti storici più significativi di Cervia. Quando nel 1709 Cervia diventò anche un grosso centro commerciale per il sale, questa Torre continuò ad avere una funzione difensiva ancora più importante, in quanto era di vedetta anche per eventuali razzie che potevano avvenire all’interno dei magazzini del sale.
La torre architettonicamente è espressione proprio di quel periodo dove la maggior parte degli edifici con lo scopo di difesa venivano costruiti con pianta quadrangolare. A suo tempo si distingueva per l’imponenza in quanto è alta circa 20 mt.
Il posizionamento di questa torre era a suo tempo estremamente importante in quanto è situata nel porto canale della città vicinissima al grande complesso dei magazzini di stoccaggio del sale.

Pensieri
Quando ho osservato questa Torre ho pensato non solo alla sua bellezza, ma anche alla sua importanza storica. Effettivamente una volta, quando la tecnologia moderna non era nemmeno immaginabile, questa torre era una garanzia contro le fazioni nemiche ed i predatori di sale. Insomma, una volta era molto di più di quello che è oggi.

Conclusioni
Oggi la Torre San Michele di Cervia combina valore storico e funzione difensiva di un tempo con un’importanza culturale e turistica quasi unica. Un edificio che non molti conoscono, ma appena si giunge a Cervia, sul porto canale, è sicuramente la prima cosa che un turista nota.
