International Day of Forests is our responsibility to nature
Introduction
Forests act as the lungs of our planet. Plants absorb carbon dioxide to produce oxygen which is vital for the survival of all living things, including humans.Forests not only provide shelter to animals they also regulate our climate prevent soil erosion and contribute significantly economy. Therefore, the United Nations has declared March 21 as the International Day of Forests to show the importance of forest conservation.
History of International Day of Forests
The United Nations General Assembly decided to celebrate this day in 2012.The main objective is to make people aware importance of forest conservation and ensure sustainable forest management.Every year, this day is celebrated based on a specific theme.
Importance of forest
1. Protect the environment
Forests keep our environment clean. It improves air quality reduces noise pollution and prevents soil erosion.
2. Tackling climate change
Forests play important role reducing global warming absorbing carbon dioxide.Abundant vegetation keeps temperatures under control which maintains climate stability.
3. Conservation of Biodiversity
Forests are the habitat of various species of animals and plants. 80% of Earth's land animals and plants live in forests.
4. Economic importance
Forests are a source of timber fruits medicinal plants and other natural resources. Many people are engaged in forest dependent occupations such as wood industry, paper industry, rubber production etc.
5. Food and water supply
Forests yield abundant fruits nuts honey and other food items. In addition forest water supply systems are important for the survival of rivers and wetlands.
Forest loss and its causes
Due to human ignorance and greed, the rate of forest destruction is increasing worldwide. The main reasons are.Deforestation is the creation of agricultural land, industrial areas and settlements. Fires are one of the main causes of forest destruction. Illegal timber trade is indiscriminately felling trees for the sake of higher profits.
Ways to conserve forests
To save forests we need to be aware and take some effective steps. Planting more trees and restoring forests. Enforcing forest laws to stop illegal logging and making strict laws for forest conservation. Forest-based sustainable living Using alternative materials instead of wood and inventing new technologies for forest conservation.
Conclusion
Forests are one of the most important parts of our life and environment. So it is our duty to conserve the forest without destroying it.The International Day of Forests reminds us that if we do not conserve our forests, our future is at risk.Lets all plant trees, save forests and make the world livable.
