LAGO DI COMO, we arrived in COLICO, ITALY

We took the long route from Rust in Germany to Lake Como in Italy. The old border road goes through the mountains and is gorgeous. I could make 5 #amazingnature blogs, so much pictures i took. So maybe I will make some more blogs for the contest.
The charm and beauty of Valchiavenna appeal not only to those who love to wander the pathways or go hiking along its ancient routes. In summer when the weather tempts everyone outdoors our local roads are buzzing with bikers heading for the Alpine passes close at hand. Leaving from Chiavenna it’s a short spin to the Maloja pass on the way to Engadina, and the same applies to the Spluga pass which neatly links Italy with the Swiss heartland. This is the one we took instead of the short cut to experience the green beauty to the heights of about 1700 meter.
One of the most popular tours with bikers though, is one taking in a further pass, the Julier, incorporating in a complete ‘ring-shape’ a magnificent opportunity to appreciate a range of different landscapes, with much history in evidence and a variety of architectural styles, all set within a fabulous corner of the Alpine arc. The route we Took alongside Chiavenna and going towards Spluga. Once over the border it moves on to mezzola lake, before turning south to Colico. We went over the Julier pass after Chiavenna, and stopped at the splits waterfall.
From Chiavenna, at a height of just 333 metres, the road climbs immediately with some serious gradients ahead and moves towards the Passo dello Spluga. Hairpin bends and twists provide a thorough examination of a biker’s ability or an experienced driver like hubby because the pins are narrow and many.
From the point of view of panoramas and landscape - we stopped about 8 times. Also to pee in nature, at such height that is a must do. Those who wish might consider a break at St. Moritz - a favourite for lovers of shopping and all things chic. The return to Italy is much enhanced by the magnificent views in Val Bregaglia with its splendidly-preserved little communities and legendary Pizzo Badile one of many impressive granite peaks standing out against the sky. Bikers can do this tour in a single day, even if leaving from further afield. But it’s certainly worth considering a pit-stop in Chiavenna even if just for one night; it might just make the whole adventure even more enjoyable instead of simply hurtling off on a long, demanding trip. We did it in 6 hours and had a great ride, lunch and pee. We arrived in Colico, in our apartment. The pool was the first thing the boys jumped into and we had a great upgrade. The apartment is for 8 persons ahahahhah and with all we needed. So after 4 days i could do the washing which for a mum is great. We will stay at lake Como and visit all places from here with car or boat.
Beautiful cities and beautiful lakes is what characterizes the Lombardy region in the north of Italy. The perfect alternation between fun activities on the water and visiting a nice city, were the reason for us to go there, but the fact that George Clooney lives there an I might get to play a scene from ER with him could be the ultimate experience in Como too, but I haven’t told hubby that.
Italian Lombardy is a popular region in the north of Italy. The beautiful and well-known Lake Garda, Milan and Bergamo are popular places in the region. And that will be our end place to visit my parents. ( they are in Desenzano del Garda in summer ) But because there is so much to see and we love Italy, we decided to go to lake Como on our way there. But its true there is much more to see in this region than we have time for. Lake Como, the historic center of Como and undiscovered places around the lake. We already have this lovely place in Colico.
The Lombardy region has many beautiful lakes, of which Lake Como is certainly one of the lakes we all havent visited yet. There is also Lago Magiore and lake Idro. On this beautiful lake is the romantic town of Como where there is much more to do than a boat trip on the lake. You can take the cable car to the small town of Brunate which is about 500 meters above the city of Como and is sometimes called the Balcony of the Alps. From Brunate you have a beautiful view over Como, Lake Como, Lombardy and when the weather is good also the Alpine mountains and the Western Alps. So thats on the wish list.
When you walk to the fountain of Pissarottino you apparently have the most beautiful view of the lake, the mountain and the surrounding area. The funicolare, as the famous cable car is called, is a special ride of about six minutes. It is said that when you have never been on a cable car, you sit at the front. This gives you the best view and the best place for a nice photo. I still have to check the website of Funicolare Como. Also the Cathedral of Como, Città Murata the ruins of the city wall from the 12th century and the old city center will easily keep us busy for several hours, but we have to see how its with the covid rules and what is possible and what is not.
Lake Garda is perhaps the most famous lake among the Dutch who go on holiday to Italy. Not surprising because the lake and the surroundings are beautiful. The beautifully situated campsites also make it a perfect family destination. All around Lake Garda there are plenty of historical sites that are absolutely worth visiting. The many old castles on the lake were of great strategic value during the many wars over the centuries. Fortunately many of these impressive castles have been preserved and can be found all over the Lombardy countryside. That is where i grew up in summers, and my parents are still there.
