WazirX seizes $3 million USD in stolen assets from cyberattack!
Cryptocurrency exchange WazirX was a popular exchange in India that used Liminal's digital asset custody and wallet infrastructure since February 2023. The wallet has fallen victim to sophisticated cybercriminals. It lost about $230 million after last year's cyber attack. The exchange authority has been continuing its efforts to recover its stolen funds since the hack last year, and as part of that effort, the exchange authority recently froze approximately $3 million USD in stolen assets (USDT).
This is the first successful portion of recovered funds in the platform's ongoing restructuring process to recover stolen funds. Since then, WazirX authorities have continued efforts to recover their stolen funds and are therefore working in partnership with Zettai law enforcement agencies, forensic experts, investigative authorities as well as legal experts. One objective is to work in a collective effort to track down stolen assets while taking the best course of action for all affected users of their platforms.
WazirX's founders say with the three million dollars they recently cashed in, this is just the beginning. They are even making every effort to recover the funds that have been hacked from these exchanges and the exchange authorities say that they are fully committed to recovering their stolen funds. They make every effort to maximize recovery under a scheme. That's why they continue to make efforts as much as they need. And while they continue their efforts, they've let all of their users know that they appreciate their patience and support as they navigate this challenging situation. They even urged their users to be patient and also stated that their efforts to recover the stolen assets are fully underway and on the right track.
WazirX blamed North Korean hackers for the cyber attack behind the hack. But the announcement follows a joint statement from the US, South Korea and Japan asking their users to be patient and recover money. Originally this exchange was attacked by hackers last year. The attacked wallet was protected by six signatories – five from WazirX and one from Liminal. The exchange authorities reported that hackers exploited a mismatch between the data displayed on Liminal's interface and the actual transaction content.
