In the fourth week of the Steemit Challenge Season 25 competition, @dasudi mam has organized the "SLC25-W4 // "Chickpea Salad" competition. This week, we are going to explore the world of gastronomy about chickpea salad. We will make chickpea salad and learn about its history and the benefits of the ingredients used in the salad. Chickpea salad is satisfying and nutritious. Vitamins, minerals, fiber, and protein are all abundant in it. Chickpeas can be soaked or boiled and mixed with various vegetables to make a salad. It helps lose weight, improves digestion, and reduces the risk of heart disease.

200 grams cooked chickpeas
1 red and green bell pepper
1 onion
1 tomato
1 cucumber
Chicken 300 gm
3 tablespoons oil
2 tablespoons of vinegar
1 tablespoon honey
Pepper to taste
Salt to taste
Parsley to taste

Steps to make chickpea salad:

Step 1:

  • I will add chicken to the salad. For this, I took boneless chicken breast. I boiled the chicken with enough water. Then I cooled it and spread the cooked chicken pieces with a spoon.

Step 2:

  • To make chickpea salad, I put fresh cucumber, capsicum, chili, and tomato in water and washed them well. Then I cut them into small pieces to make them usable in the salad.

Step 3:

  • Now I will start adding the salad ingredients to a mixing bowl. First, I added cucumber. I cut it with the green skin of the cucumber because it will make the salad look attractive, and the skin has nutrients that are beneficial for our bodies. Then I added tomatoes, bell pepper, onion, and parsley along with the cucumber.

4th Step:

  • Today's Chickpea Salad. At this stage, I added the main ingredient of the salad, chickpeas. I used peeled chickpeas here. I soaked the chickpeas with enough water. After soaking them, I put them in a kettle with lots of water and boiled them. I shredded the chicken meat and then added the chickpeas. Now I mixed everything very well and kept it aside.

Step 5:

  • At this stage, I will prepare the vinaigrette for the salad. For this, I took oil, vinegar, honey, and black pepper powder together in a bowl and mixed them very well.

Step 6:

  • Now I added the prepared vinaigrette to the salad. Until I served the salad, I refrigerated it to improve its flavor.

Now the chickpea salad is ready. Which looks attractive, tastes delicious, and is full of nutrients.

Yes, I have had chickpea salad before! Chickpea salad is quite popular in our country, especially as part of street food like "chana chaat" or "chickpea chaat". It often contains boiled chickpeas, chopped onions, green chillies, tomatoes, cucumbers, coriander leaves, lemon juice, and sometimes tamarind sauce. It is sour, spicy, slightly crunchy, and very refreshing - a perfect snack on a hot day.

My salad taste:

My salads are often simple but bold in taste. Instead of creamy dressings, they usually contain natural ingredients like lemon juice, mustard oil, salt, green chillies, and fresh herbs. Common types include:

  • Tomato-cucumber-onion salad
  • Mixed salad of dried or dried fish
  • Raw mango salad (mango makha)
  • Lemon and chilli-based carrot-beetroot salad

These salads are usually spicier and sour. They rely on natural, fresh flavours rather than heavy dressings.

Did it meet my expectations?

Absolutely! It met my expectations. These salads may look simple, but the flavour is strong and satisfying. They go well with rice dishes, biryani, or can be eaten alone as a light snack. If one is used to Western salads, these salads will surprise anyone with their delicious and spicy taste.
