Migration is the movement of people or persons from one place of residence i.e country, locality, region cities and town to settle in another. This movement could be temporary or permanent to study, join family, or search for job opportunities. Some other people or persons move to another region due to natural disasters, climate change or environmental factors.

What are the causes of migration?

Migration is a broad social phenomenon that happens for several reasons be it voluntarily or involuntarily

Economic causes
Economic migration could be a result of a high unemployment rate and poor standard of living. If economic conditions are not favourable to its citizens and at high risk of declining further, A large number of people in that region or country will migrate to countries or localities with a better outlook which includes a higher standard of living, better employment opportunities, educational opportunities and higher wages.

Environmental and climate cause
This has been a major cause of migration as people move from areas with natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods etc. These disasters affect life greatly as a result people flee to other localities or countries for safety.

Marriage and family reunion
A family reunion is another cause of migration. When family members are separated, there is a need for them to unite at some point. For example, if a man is in a different country from his wife and children at some point he will want his family to come over and stay with him and these causes his family to migrate.

Better health care
Good health care is a challenge many developing countries face today. People migrate to ensure they get effective and better health in developed countries

How is the situation of your country and the migration rate?

My country Nigeria has been affected by a poor standard of living which has made the citizens live in hunger and lack thereby leaving the people hopeless. And the government is not applying any positive effect to give solution to this ugly situation.

We also lack basic health amenities which has affected the poor to access quick and better medical attention

Unemployment and low salaries are other problems faced in my country which has forced a lot of people to migrate in search of better job opportunities in other countries

Safety and security are another challenge in my country. This has led to high rate of criminal and cult-related violence, also farmers and herdsmen clash and as a result of this people tend to migrate for their safety.

All these abnormalities in the country, have led to a high rate of migration. People are moving every day to different countries in search of job opportunities and overall better life.

Do you think migration is the solution?

No, migration is not the solution. The government can tackle this migration crisis by creating employment for young people, boosting the security of the nation, providing more sufisticated medical facilities and also getting more medical personnel.

The standard of education should also be promoted, and provide humanitarian assistance to people in need.

Are you willing to migrate if you see an opportunity which country would be your destination?

Sure, I'm willing to migrate out of my country. For study and better job opportunities. I have always wished to study in a different country.

My choice of country of migration is Canada. Mainly because of its low crime rate, good health system and family-friendly. Canada has a reputation as one of the countries in the world that is friendly to immigrants. Which makes the transition of new immigrants easier to fit into the system of the country.

There are lots of benefits to living in Canada and the country changes one's life completely for good.
