" Food you identify with"/(My African dish!)
Who would come to Africa and not like what they see? Everything about Africa is beautiful, and their dishes are exceptional.
The aroma from African dishes can make you forget your name, so what if you had a taste of the food? What do you think would happen? Well, just so you know, every meal from the African kitchen is amazing.
I love my African food so much that I mostly eat yam and swallow. Yam is a tuber-rooted plant that is grown and produced in Africa. Yam can be used to prepare swallow (pounded yam), or it can be prepared as porridge, fried, cooked, etc.
Yam is very good and highly nutritious. It is good for bone health and heart function. I bet you that just the aroma would sweep you off your feet.
Yam is widely known in Igbo land, which is why its festival is usually a very big and serious occasion. My daddy is a yam eater; he eats yam every day and feels satisfied, but my mom has a pattern of cooking it for him. Remember, I told you that yam can be prepared in different styles depending on your choice?
Yam is very easy to prepare; anyone can prepare it. I do my cooking myself, so I prepare my yam right in my kitchen to my taste. Yam could be fried, baked, cooked, or pounded. I eat all the styles, but it depends on which one I want at that time.
Since there are different ways to prepare yam, I will share just 2 patterns with us here just in case you want to try them out.
How to prepare porridge yam
• Peel your yam, slice it, and wash it with clean water.
• Put into a clean pot, add an amount of water, add crayfish, palm oil, salt, pepper, spices, onions, and fish, then cover the pot and set on fire to boil.
• Wash and slice your vegetables and keep them ready.
• Finally, check the boiling food on fire, add the veggies, and stir. Taste for salt and off the fire because the food is done.
It's very easy and simple; you can try it out!
How to Prepare Yam Sauce
• Peel and wash the yam, put it in a clean pot, add water, and set it on fire to boil.
• While waiting for the yam, you wash tomatoes, onions, and peppers and slice them gently into a bowl.
• Use the fry pan, add a little oil, and set on fire. Allow to heat up, then add the sliced tomatoes and stir. Add some spice and salt, and get the eggs ready by beating them together in a bowl.
• Pour in the eggs into the frying pan and allow to cook just for 2 seconds, then stir. You can stir well and taste for salt.
We are what we eat, so try to eat healthy food to stay healthy. What we eat truly is what defines us. I have a cousin who swears that she can never eat solid food; she prefers snacks and all the other easy-going foods like spag, rice, noodles, etc.
This cousin of mine never looked healthy and was always visiting a doctor. She was told to start solid so that she could be healthy and live well, but she refused and continued with her junk.
Every day I see her, I see what she eats, because that is what describes her. If you don't eat, it will one day be obvious.
