Powering up is the process of locking up your steem in a form that allows it to generate interest when used for content curation. You curate content when you read it, evaluate its worth and vote accordingly. When curating content on Steemit, the value of your vote is directly proportional to your steem power.
And to get Steem Power, you have to power up Steem. In case I failed to mention, a curation reward is the benefit you get from voting on another person's content. And this reward is also directly proportional to your steem power.

More Steem power means more curation rewards, greater recognition, added responsibilities, and increased influence.

Current Status

Based on this current screenshot of my wallet, I have 257 Steem. Including the feactions will make it 257.041 Steem

I wish to power up all the 257.037 Steem. And because one steem makes one steem power, my current steem power will increase by 257.037.

I will be having 3,000 Steem Power at the end ot this power-up process.

How to Power-up

On your Steemit profile window, locate the my wallet icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen.

The power-up process will be done in the Steemit wallet.
Step 1:
Select the wallet icon.

Selecting the wallet icon takes you into the Steemit wallet and this is what you will see.

A username and profile photo, you will also see the amount of liquid steem and steem power in your account.

Step 2:
Go to the menu button at the top right.

This will help you get the needed permission to perform a power-up.

At this point, I have 257.041 Steem. And right below it, is my current steem power being 2,742.961 that is two thousand seven hundred and seventy.

Step 3:
Select the sign-in option

Log in with your Username and active key

Step 4-5
Select the drop-down beside the available liquid steem and go for the power-up option.

Enter the amount of Steem you want to power up
And select the power-up button.

Go over to the Ok button and confirm the power-up process.

Conclusion and Invitation

It is prudent to save and invest through power-ups on the Steemit platform. It gives you more influence, some kind of returns on investment and the opportunity to take up responsibilities like a moderator or curator.
