Daily Menu Delicacies Week No.75 .16/06/2025 // Saba Onigiri Chazuke

in Steemit Iron Chef3 days ago (edited)

Onigiri - that iconic Japanese rice ball. It's white rice, shaped into a triangular shape and wrapped in nori, with savory fillings like umeboshi, salted salmon, katsuobushi, kombu and such.

Chazuke -that's pure comfort food right there. I can't stay up too late without my brain deciding it needs some because it's so easy to whip one up. Green tea or dashi as a broth over plain rice, with pretty much any topping you can imagine.

This boy, Sōma Yukihira, took the humble chazuke and made it seem like a culinary revelation with his French cooking technique, poêlée , which, of course, made things even more complicated for me.

Why can't I just put leftover grilled fish and rice and just pour green tea over it?!

It used to take less than 3 minutes to assemble. A super-fast meal!

That wooden spoon you see is my poêlée spoon. Other spatulas are just too big.

Even though I'm making such a fuss, I can't help but give it a try because everything he made in Food Wars makes me feel hungry at the worst time, bedtime.

My neighbors probably hear me screaming and yelling because the smell of grilled fish brings all my cats to the kitchen. Some stay on the floor while others just can't wait and try to help themselves by jumping on the counter.

Pets shouldn't be too self-reliant. That's not a good thing.

The grilled fish is then formed into onigiri with the rice. It's not just green tea either; there's also salted kelp for the broth.

Just realized that my writing on the sticky note was too small and almost illegible, but I couldn't write a new one since I was being watched by 3 cats.

I tried my best to take some almost passable pictures before the cats jumped on the table, as you can see by the head in the picture. She was about to paw at the bowl.

So, here it is, my first attempt at Saba Onigiri Chazuke.

I'm going to have to lock the cats in the bedroom when I make it again sometime this week because it's almost 11pm here and I'm still thinking about it.

Plain old chazuke will never be enough for me anymore.

I'm inviting @wakeupkitty @dreeyor @xiao-aine to participate in this too.

I have no idea what the requirements are but your post looks super and even more does the food. If I cannot sleep tonight it isn't the red sheet but the good looking food 😍

No recipe?

I never had cats on the table or in my pots.

🍀♥️👍

Now that you asked about the recipe, II think they didn't want it. I will write about the dish and the recipe in my upcoming posts.
I've seen people posting about cats in the pots but thank goodness that is not happening yet for me. They have been in the wardrobe and kitchen cabinet so far. We had to place a child lock on the wardrobe door 🤣🤣🤣.
