The photo clearly shows a laborer lifting mangoes onto his head, while another man standing above neatly arranges the mangoes on a truck. I came across this beautiful scene this morning when I visited the market.

This photo was taken at the large mango market in our town of Kotchandpur. Due to the fertile soil of our country, various types of fruits grow abundantly here. Likewise, Kotchandpur is known for producing a large quantity of mangoes. In the past, mango farmers had to endure a great deal of hardship to sell their produce. Many farmers would incur losses because they couldn’t sell their mangoes on time. However, the establishment of a large mango market in Kotchandpur has brought relief to farmers, allowing them to finally make a profit. From this market, trucks loaded with mangoes are dispatched to various parts of the country. With the improvement in transportation infrastructure, these mangoes are now able to reach every corner of the country, meeting consumer demand.

In the southern coastal regions of our country, mangoes are rarely seen because mango trees do not grow well there. Moreover, salty water is not suitable for mango cultivation. As a result, mangoes from Kotchandpur are mostly sent in truckloads to regions like Feni, Noakhali, Comilla, and Chattogram. Every day, mangoes worth 60 to 70 crore taka are traded in this Kotchandpur market.

If the location and the quality of mango varieties can be further improved, the mango market of Kotchandpur will develop even more. Moreover, the mangoes from our region can meet domestic demand and also be exported to international markets, contributing to the economic development of the country. Therefore, we earnestly request the government to pay close attention to the overall development of the Kotchandpur mango market. Additionally, it is the responsibility of the Department of Agriculture to advise mango farmers on the best fertilizers and techniques to ensure proper ripening and quality yield.
