DIY: recycle your old, used candles

Hello my dear Steemians,

 

Today I wanted to share our activitiy that could also help many of you to recycle old and used candles. After December when we had used many candles around Christmas time and it was a shame to throw away the rest of candles although there was still a lot of wax there.

 

 

My hubby decided to see if we can melt some of them and create new one, first we wanted to find some materials as home and for the shape of the candles to use something tubular, maybe glasses or plastic cups but almost in every case that needed to be broken in order to remove wax from the vessel.

The next search was in Internet and we have found a system that was specially for making new candles from old. The set had three plastic type vessels, wooden stick with the hole in the middle that you needed to pass a cotton strong through and also the string itself. Very simple so we decided to buy it and use.

 

 

 

 

So simple it is, just pass the tread through.

 

 

Make sure that you fix it on top and botton so that it is straight and not loose.

 

 

You old candles need to be melt in a special heat resistent vessel that is placed into boiling water.

 

 

Once wax is melt you simply pour it in the prepared vessel.

 

 

 

 

Here you still can see the thread in teh middle of candle.

 

 

Wax is now cooled down and it is not transparent and you can not see through.

 

 
 

 

The wax now dry and firm and ready for removal.

 

 

 

 

This is how it looks like when you remove the candle out of the vessel.

 

 

Here is the final result, our first experiment was successful so time for the rest of our old candles to turn into new one.
