There are 5 main foundations of Islam. Among these, fasting or Sawm is the third, the Arabic word Sawm means restraint. Sawm means abstinence, self-restraint, purification. Abstaining from all kinds of eating, drinking, sinning, lust, sensual gratification and also from all pleasures is called fasting from dawn till sunset. According to Islamic law, it is obligatory for every adult Muslim to fast every day during the month of Ramadan.
✅ What is the main purpose of fasting in Ramadan? |
---|
The main purpose of fasting is to gain the pleasure of Allah Ta'ala. The month of Ramadan is the month of virtue, we can gain the pleasure of Allah by doing more worship in this month. In this month, one can increase taqwa by abstaining from sinful acts and controlling one's desires. Another purpose of fasting is to attain piety. Allah Ta'ala has said about fasting, O believers! Fasting is enjoined upon you, as it was enjoined upon those before you, that you may attain piety. Surah Baqarah (2):183
✅ How does fasting benefit a person spiritually and physically? |
---|
Since fasting is a religious act of worship, regular fasting can help you feel peace of mind. At this time, the secretion of stress hormones decreases, which greatly increases the performance of the brain. Apart from this, the habit of fasting for a long month gives strength to go on the right path. Due to self-restraint for a long time, one can easily refrain from sinful activities. As a result of fasting, the body acquires the ability to take various types of stress. As a result the fasting person usually never faces seizures and mental disturbances.
The physical benefits of fasting are many. For example:
Fasting is an effective way to detoxify the body. Those who are overweight can easily use this time of Ramadan to lose weight.
Due to empty stomach throughout the day during fasting, the digestive acids are released slowly, which helps to eliminate various digestive problems.
Fasting involves fasting for almost the entire day, which reduces excess fat and fat in our body.
Due to not eating for a long time during fasting, the amount of cholesterol and glucose in the body decreases. As a result, high blood pressure and diabetes are controlled.
Those who have the habit of overeating, can get rid of this habit by fasting regularly.
✅ Tell us about your favorite Sahoor and Iftar Recipes. What are their benefits? |

Sehri food is very important in fasting, because after sehri we have to fast for almost the whole day. But it is better not to eat too much during Sehri. Also, we should not eat food that makes us thirsty. Many people skip Sehri altogether or eat very little because of Alzheimer's, this is not right at all. I usually like to eat rice during Sehri because rice is a sugary food that provides energy to our body. Also, rice is easily digestible as it is rich in carbohydrates. Along with rice I like to eat a variety of green vegetables and fish because green vegetables contain vitamin 'A', which helps in growth, eyesight and disease prevention, and fish helps in keeping the heart healthy and keeps cholesterol normal. Fish is rich in protein, which helps repair cells, build and maintain muscle.
Iftar is the main attraction of fasting. People organize Iftar according to their ability. There should not be too many food items at this time. Otherwise, one iftar plate will contain all the calories of the day. The main ingredient of Iftar is Sharbat. For Iftar, I usually prefer to eat light snacks such as sherbet and different kinds of fruits because this sherbet fills up the lack of water throughout the day and relieves fatigue. Sherbet can be made with different ingredients. For example, the husk of this plant, tokma, lemon, tamarind, bell, curd, fruit juice etc. Canned water can be consumed instead of syrup. On the other hand, the vitamin C, antioxidants and other beneficial ingredients present in the fruit increase the immune system of the body. Also, almost all fruits contain water, which helps keep our skin healthy and soft.
✅ Tell us about the things which we should do or should not do while fasting. |

First of all we have to worship more and more by fasting because through worship we can get the pleasure of Allah Ta'ala. The month of Ramadan is the month of virtue, in this month we should give more charity, be with the poor and needy, help the helpless. The rich and the poor should forget the differences and walk together in the society, everyone should be treated equally. And by fasting, we must refrain from bad deeds, refrain from abuse. Smoking should not be done while fasting, immoral acts should be avoided as much as possible. Fasting is not only if you don't eat, all the other rules of fasting must be followed to keep the fast, only then will the real fast be kept. A true Muslim fasts according to all the commands of Allah, his only purpose is to gain the pleasure of Allah. Therefore, we all should worship Allah more and more by obeying all Allah commands and prohibitions in order to gain the pleasure of Allah.
