"Fasting In Ramadan"

To take part in the contest called "Fasting in Ramadan" organized by @abdullahw2. Ramadan is a month of profound spiritual significance for Muslims globally. The month of Ramadan is not only about refraining from food and liquids, it's about our inner self, self-control, and spiritual connection with Allah. This post connects the dots between fasting during Ramadan and developing that faith, through my personal experience and the lessons I learn every year from it.
So the reason we fast in Ramadan, is that we have taqwa (God-consciousness) and we have closeness with Allah. During this holy month, Muslims fast from dawn until dusk, without eating, drinking or taking care of other bodily needs, in an act of worship and submission to Allah.. So fasting is more than simply abstaining from food and drink; it is a way to purify the soul, exercise patience, and strengthen self-discipline. It reminds you that there are so many people who are much worse off than you, why not be more giving, more empathetic? We fast during it to purify our hearts, to make us feel how those who are less fortunate than we are live, and to ask Allah for forgiveness, mercy, and blessings.
I think there are many spiritual and healthy benefits of fasting in the month of Ramadan. Fasting, on a spiritual level, also brings us closer to Allah by making us more attentive towards worship and contemplation. It teaches patience, self-discipline and compassion for those less fortunate than you. It’s a moment to cleanse the heart, seek forgiveness, purify the soul. Through handweaving we were able to step away from some of the luxuries of the world to find humility and strength in faith and grace.
On a physiological level, fasting also brings health benefits. Yet it is the body's opportunity to detoxify and reset, hard as that may seem. In this period, the body is given the opportunity to consume stored energy and remove toxins from the body. It enhances digestion and might even help with cholesterol levels. But we must also eat a well-balanced diet during sahoor and iftar so that we remain healthy all month long. For me, fasting is a truly transformative, eye-opening experience with spiritual and physical benefits combined.
In my case, if I am to choose, my top sahoor meal would be plain white rice with beef bhuna. A burst of carbohydrate from the rice, protein from the beef bhuna gets me through the long day of fasting as I am satisfied and full. The spices in beef bhuna not only enhance its taste but also offer health benefits such as better digestion and vital nutrients. This meal fills me and nourishes me, and this way I feel full of energy for the long day ahead.
For iftar, I just adore alur chop, piyaju, haleem and dates. Alur chop and piyaju are crispy, savory snacks that are ideal for starting iftar, and they’re packed with flavor. Haleem is a thick stew of meat, lentils and grains that restores energy after fasting. I oft break my fast with dates. when I remember to they pack a lot of natural sugar for an immediate energy boost plus innumerable health benefits including aiding digestion. These foods fill me up as well as fuel me, giving me the right amounts of food needed for both my body and for my soul.
There are certain things we ought to do and avoid doing which will help us during the fast.
✅Things to do:
🔹Be in the frame of worship: Pray, read Quran and ask for forgiveness.
🔹Stay nourished:Have plenty of nutritious foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your sahoor and iftar.
🔹Hydrate: Drink fluids between iftar and sahoor to avoid dehydration.
🔹Learn to self discipline: Manage negative feelings such as anger and impatience.
✅Things to avoid:
🔹Overeating: If you eat large doses of food at iftar, you will feel sluggish.
🔹Too much coffee: If you can avoid it, coffee or tea, they can dehydrate you so try to limit.
🔹Indulgence in sin: Stay away from gossiping, slander, disrespectful acts
🔹High-intensity workouts: Refrain from rigorous exercise while fasting to preserve your energy.
These are the possible ways by which we can not only make our fasting spiritually rewarding but also physically rewarding.
