Mithu's Farewell |

It was most probably three or four years ago. I was spending my days at home after my final year exams of honors. We had a peaceful life of a village in Dinajpur. However, something special happened one day. Nazim Bhaiya brought along a parrot to our home. We all named it "Mithu." The little green bird soon became one of our family.
Mithu was very smart and soon got along with everyone. It would say a few words like Nazim, Nuha, Nuha, Arohi, Arohi which made all of us laugh. Mithu used to jump around in its cage whenever Nazim Bhaiya arrived home from his dispensary. Little Nuha Bhaiya’s one year old daughter, would laugh and reach out her tiny hands to Mithu. Mithu appeared to know that Nuha was a very special person.
With Mithu around, our days became more joyful in the village. But soon, I had to leave for Dhaka to start my master’s studies. Though I was preoccupied with the city life, I sakely missed out Mithu and our home too. I would ask about Mithu every time, when I used to talk to my mother on the phone. She would sometimes let me hear its voice. Being heard Mithu’s voice made me feel like I was back home again.
However life is not stay the same. Once my sister in law, our bhabi, became very sick one day. Everything had to be managed at home alone by Nazim Bhaiya. No one remained to look after Mithu anymore. Therefore, Bhaiya made a decision and handed Mithu to one of his friends.
I did not know of this. One day I found out Mithu was not a part of us anymore, during a phone call. Mithu was gone. It had felt as though something very dear to me had been taken from me. I kept thinking of Mithu’s empty cage. That night, I cried a lot.
Mithu had brought so much happiness and love to our lives. Though those memories shall never fade. Perhaps with the passage of time the pain of losing Mithu will become lessened, but the voice of Mithu inducing those beautiful days will always be here. Mithu had left us with a small hole in our hearts that we had seen would never heal. It brings a smile to my face and a tear in my eyes whenever i think of Mithu.

What a joyful and painful moment for you. The attachment with someone like this so close and one day when you want to leave that person or that person leave you, is like the world has ended for you. I will pray that you get back your mithu again. Thank you for inviting me. I will try my best to take part in this contest.
