Rock and Roll "Hall of Fame" Releases List of Nominees for 2025 Class
In my last post, I discussed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and if what it has warped into is still truly the 'Rock and Roll' Hall of Fame. Since then (Feb. 12), the Hall released their newest list of nominees for this year's class. The point of my last post was to make light on the fact that tons of great bands that are actually rock and roll groups have been long-snubbed by the Hall. Three that I listed in my last post were nominated this year: Bad Company, Joe Cocker, and Soundgarden.
Bad Company
The Black Crowes
Mariah Carey
Chubby Checker
Joe Cocker
Billy Idol
Joy Division/New Order
Cyndi Lauper
Maná
Oasis
Outkast
Phish
Soundgarden
The White Stripes
Not to say I'm not a fan of Outkast, because I have been for years, but there are dozens of names that should come before them that are actually rock and roll and not just influenced by the genre.
Out of this list, Soundgarden, The Black Crowes, Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Chubby Checker, and Billy Idol should be shoe-ins. That said, Mariah Carey will probably be put in...don't get me wrong, I wholeheartedly believe she made beautiful music and am guilty of buying her stuff more than once over the years; the problem is, none of her content was rock and roll.
There has never been a greater need for a Music Hall of Fame, as this once-great institution is being watered down during the current process.
Above is Judas Priest's performance when they were inducted at the 2022 show.
