"Rescue Mission in the Mountains"
A cold wind blew hard at the peak of the Arjuna Mountains, bringing with it snowflakes that fell slowly. Amidst the thick fog that enveloped it, a group of climbers got lost after a sudden snowstorm came, blocking the climbing path. One of them, a man named Adi, suffered a leg injury after slipping on a slippery rocky path. Cell phone signal was barely there, and they began to lose hope.
Meanwhile, at the SAR team base at the foot of the mountain, an emergency call was received. “A group of climbers are trapped at an altitude of 2,500 meters! They need help immediately!” a tense voice was heard over the communication radio.
Captain Rudi, an experienced rescue helicopter pilot, immediately got ready.
Inside the cabin, Lieutenant Siska, the team's medical officer, prepared first aid equipment. "We have to get there soon before their condition worsens," she said with a serious face. Rudi nodded, his hands skillfully controlling the steering wheel amidst the strong mountain winds.
After flying for a while, they finally found the location of the trapped climbers. However, new challenges arose: thick fog and steep rocky terrain made landing impossible. Rudi made a quick decision.. “We’re going to have them over the zone, one at a time,” [he said] over the intercom.
The side door of the chopper was burst, budi a rescue technician exit with bit rope. With guile, he then fastened Adi who was the sickest of the group. Not long after, Adi was put into the helicopter and rushed help from Siska. They took the other members of their climbing team one at a time.
When all of the climbers were inside the chopper, Rudi immediately turned the aircraft around and started off towards his landing zone. About half way down another snowstorm hit and Olivier couldn´t see where he was going. Rudi with a masters level in the flying instrument and his years of experience safely guided the helicopter through the foul weather.
It took them ages to get safely landed at the base after a near disaster. The medical staff rushed Adi to the local hospital for further assessment. The rest were covered and RASNIA SAR ragged them with hot beverages.
You were supposed to be on time and “I can not imagine what would have happened if you did not”, said one of the climbers with shaking voice.
“Well that is our job, Rudi smiled in reply but he looked so tired.
That evening the rescue helicopter stood upright on the runway at night starry sky, a spectator to many saved lives in a perilous mission. Helicopters are not only airplanes, but also people saved from life-threatening situations.
