Traces on the Lost Rails

Ayesha sat on the Colombo Fort station platform, her gaze fixed on the rails that seemed to hold memories of ten years ago. She was still a fifteen-year-old girl when her family disappeared on a train journey from Kandy to Colombo. The chaos in the crowded carriage, coupled with a sudden stop at a small station, was the beginning of an unexpected separation. Despite getting shelter and education, Ayesha never stopped looking for her family. Ten years have passed, and now at the age of 25, her determination is getting stronger.

Armed with a faded family photo and vague memories of the journey, Ayesha began reaching out to various parties—authorities, social organizations, and even posting her story on social media. She visited villages along the railway line, asking locals if anyone recognized the faces in her photos.

One day, a message from a man named Mahesh appeared in her inbox. He claimed to recognize Ayesha’s father. With great hope, she immediately went to meet Mahesh in a village near Gampaha. Mahesh said that about a decade ago, a man with features similar to her father had briefly lived in the village, but then left without a trace.

Undeterred, Ayesha continued to track down information, until finally a village chief in the southern region gave her surprising news. A woman named Latha—who looked just like her mother—lived in a fishing community with a young boy. With bated breath, Ayesha made her way there. “Ayesha?” the voice trembled.

In a long-awaited embrace, they burst into tears. The mother tells how she and Ayesha’s sister survived the chaos on the train, but lost track of her husband and Ayesha. After years of fruitless searching, they settled in this village.

Ayesha has not found her father, but she knows this is a new beginning. With her family back in her arms, she vows not to stop searching—until all the missing pieces of her life are back together.

You are from Indonesia; how can you get this story? Because I can remember I have read this story somewhere else. Only idea, not sure.

Colombo Fort Station Platform is part of the main railway station in Colombo, Sri Lanka,
I got an idea about this station from a video that I watched on the TikTok homepage a few days ago
There was an Indonesian TikToker who visited there and shared his story and I was interested in visiting there
Because the place is in Sri Lanka, that's why I mentioned your name 😄😄
