Hello friends!!

One of the ways people are known is by the way they dress, Dressing has been an integral part of human life

What are the traditional outfits commonly worn in your country?

I come from Nigeria. And in my country there are several outfits commonly worn by different tribes and cultures.

Nigeria is blessed with diverse cultures and each of them display there uniqueness through the way they dress especially during special occasions like wedding ceremonies or festivals.

Nigeria has many languages but there are 3 major languages which is the igbo, Yoruba and Hausa. And am going to focus on their dressing.

The igbo Dressing

I am from the igbo speaking tribe of Nigeria and one of the dressing commonly worn by our women during occasions is the ogodo wrapper. This wrapper can be inform of holandis or George. It is a very expensive material. This material is used to sew both the blouse and the wrapper she wears. Then she tear a head tie on her head called ichafu, the Yoruba speaking tribe call it gele.

The men wear a particular material called isi agu which means lion head. They often wear it during their wedding or for traditional occasions. But recently there has been little bit of free style in cultural dressing especially in wedding ceremonies. The men and women also wear hand beads and the Ladies can decorate their hair with it too just Incase they don't want to wear the ichafu.

The Yoruba Dressing

The Yoruba speaking tribe of Nigeria has their own different kind of dress. Their major form of dress for men is seen as the Agbada made from a hand netting material called the ashoke. You can also see them appear in different colours of Buba. The men don't see their dressing complete until it is complemented with a cap known as the fila.

Their women are not left out, they also show case themselves in a beautiful style of gown made from ashoke or just recently they can appear on a fine naive Ankara material.

The Hausa Dressing

The Hausa Dressing is the last set of dressing I want to talk about. Sometimes their traditional dress may look like that of the Yoruba especially the men.

The Hausa Dressing is known to be baban-riga. It's usually long, they also put on a cap too. This is for the men while the women make their dress from lace material in form of gowns, with a hair tie and a showel to cover them selves from their head down.

Are there any dress codes followed in schools, workplaces, or religious places? Tell us about them

Yes most schools over here have their dress called the uniforms used to identify them. From primary to secondary schools have uniforms.

Lately even some high institutions now go with uniforms. I am surprised about it. Each department or faculty has a colour of uniform they have chosen for their students. It may not be everyday but the want their students to be recognized when seen on the road.

Yes even government teachers and private teachers in schools are following suite to put on uniforms on their work days. Interesting isn't it?

In churches too there are several units that goes with uniforms on their service days such as the choir, the users the security unit, the integration and greeters. This is done in order to quickly identify who they are in church.

In your country, what type of dresses people wear on weddings including the dresses of bride and groom?

I think I have answered this question in my question one. Our commonly worn traditional dress is what we use mostly for or weddings.

There is no igbo bride without her holandis or George blouse and wrapper or lace gown. Neatly adorned in beads. And for the men you either see the isiagu clothes and trouser or plan and pattern material.

What is your personal favorite traditional or modern outfit, and why?

My favorite outfit is not the traditional outfit but rather a modern out fit called two piece. I personally do not like traditional clothes because I feel I don't look good on it and that it makes me look older than my normal age.

I love this outfit because it so free on me not tight at all. Gives me enough space to express myself always. Secondly I love the colour and texture of the material. Very soft and skin friendly. I love beautiful on it don't I?
