Pick a Word, Paint a Story #09
The villagers had the opinion that one ever visited this mansion never returned. They thought the mansion was haunted, and they heard strange sounds every full moon night.
That day again it was a full moon night. The moon was peeking from behind the clouds, but its light was not falling on the ground. One of the young boys of the village, Viyan, had always been skeptical of those stories. He did not think that there was anything supernatural in the mansion. He thought that it was just a rumor, which scared the villagers.
That night, Viyan's friends challenged him, "If you are so brave, go and stay in that mansion tonight."
Viyan accepted the challenge and decided that he would go to the mansion that night. A few of his friends, also agreed to go with him. Everyone thought it would be an exciting experience, and they started for the mansion, encouraging each other.
As they reached the mansion, they felt a strange coldness that penetrated their bones. Looking at the big and heavy door of the mansion, one of them said, "Maybe it is closed. Let's go back." But Viyan pushed the door, and it opened it, but with a creak.
As soon as they entered, a strange smell spread in the air. Their footsteps echoed as they moved towards the stairs. Kana joked, "What if there is a real ghost here?" Viyan signaled him to keep quiet and said, "We have come here only to prove that there are no ghosts."
They slowly started going deeper inside the mansion. Opening the door of every room, they found only dust and cobwebs. But as soon as they reached the largest hall, there was a loud sound, as if something heavy had fallen. Everyone got scared, and they felt scared.
Mota said in a trembling voice, "What was that?" Viyan said, "Maybe this mansion is old, so something must have fallen. There is no need to be afraid." But then there was another loud noise, and this time a gust of wind came in from the roof of the mansion, making the windows rattle loudly.
Now everyone was scared, but Viyan kept himself calm and said, "Come on, let's go upstairs." They moved towards the stairs, but Nishant feet suddenly froze. He felt someone touched his head. He turned to look, but there was no one there. Sweat started to pour on his face, and he panicked.
"Something is not right here," He said in a low voice. But Viyan consoled him and told him to move ahead.
They all reached upstairs. There was a big room, its door had a rusty lock. Viyan tried to break the lock, and finally the door opened. As the door opened, a dark cave-like place opened up in front of them. An old wooden box was placed in the middle of the room, which looked very mysterious.
Kana said jokingly, "Maybe there is some treasure in it!" Viyan said, moving towards the box, "Let's see what's inside it." He lifted the lid of the box, and as soon as he opened the lid, all the lights of the mansion suddenly started to glow.
Everyone was shocked, as there was no electricity there. An old book was kept inside the box. The book was covered in dust, and there were some strange symbols on it. Viyan extended his hand to pick up the book, when loud laughter echoed in the mansion.
By now, Viyan was also getting scared. He did not touch the book and decided to run away. Everyone quickly ran outside, but as soon as they reached the door, the door closed automatically. They started feeling that something was wrong in the mansion.
Mota said in fear, "We have to get out of here quickly." Nishant was too scared as he was trying to open the door, but the door was not opening. Suddenly, all the windows of the mansion also slammed shut.
Now they all were on the verge of breakdown. Viyan shouted, "Is there anyone? Let us out!" But there was no response. The walls of the mansion started moving, as if someone's shadow was moving there. Kana said, "This place is haunted. We made a mistake."
Finally, they thought that they must somehow find a way out of the mansion. Then Nishant saw a small door on the wall. He ran towards that door and pushed it. The door opened, and they all managed to get out through a small passage.
As soon as they reached outside the mansion, they felt relieved. The mansion was now left behind, but the scary force that was inside it left a deep mark in their hearts. viyan took a deep breath and said, "Maybe the stories of the villagers were true. We should never go to this mansion again."
They all headed back to the village, but the fear of that night remained in their hearts forever. Their thoughts about the mansion had changed forever. Now they knew that there are some secrets that are better left open. Maybe that night taught them a new lesson.

Interesting. Viyan has shown a lot of courage because it is not enough for everyone to go to such a place. You have taught a good lesson in this story. Indeed, such things exist with us in our life in this world and we should not ignore these things or challenge these invisible beings by joking. It is not beneficial for us and we should always stay away from these things.
Your story makes a shiver run down my spine. However, I would like you to have shown us your story in a different way. Because I do not believe in ghosts, therefore you could have shown us that there were not ghosts. You could have told that this ghost story spread with the hope of safeguarding the treasure in that mansion.
Anyway, you have done justice to your creation, giving it a terrible look. Thank you for painting your story around the night. It attracted me well.
Attracted or attacked where it hurts worse?
Thanks @memamun!
