Cyberdetox for peace of mind

in Hindwhale Community3 days ago
I am thinking of going for a cyber detox. I have done this before as my mind is getting prone to stress, anxiety, and negativity due to constantly working on the internet. In such a situation, it is essential to keep the mind calm and balanced.

This is why I will try a cyber detox before my project starts next month. Although it is not possible for me to stay away from the internet completely, I will reduce its use to half for now.

For me, cyber detoxification means taking a partial break from social media for four weeks. I have been thinking about it for the last few days and many things have inspired me. I have a big project ahead of me, and I want to give my mind some rest before starting work on it.

A few days ago I decided that I was feeling a little stressed due to spending a lot of time online, which was harming my ability to focus on anything else. I have decided to halve my online time and adopt measures like developing positive thinking and spending time in nature for cyber detoxification. Although my aim is to improve mental health and increase peace and happiness in life, I will stop some work while doing my work on a regular basis and do only the necessary work. Yes, one thing that I will not do at all is crypto trading because it is taking most of my time.

If done regularly, a cyber detox helps reduce stress and calm the mind. It is natural to ignore the good things due to so much happening around us. I suggest take a break from internet and see the change in your mind and body. I am going to do just that. Now the question is, can I really achieve my goal? Probably yes, because I have full faith in my willpower. I have given up many things on my own willpower, like meat and smoking habits. I can definitely do this by detoxifying my mind, even if only partially.

I would like to tell you that I have done this before as well. However, cyber detox is not as easy as it has gripped us like an addiction, and we often find it impossible to escape from the cyber world. But I know that it can seem overwhelming and tiring. And this is where a cyber detox is needed, as the increasing digital dependency and screen time are taking a toll on our mental and physical health.

Spending time on laptops continuously is leading to increased stress, lack of sleep and especially eye strain. So, my four-week digital detox is a must, although I will do it partially for now and not completely. For me, this digital detox will be limited to only 2-3 hours of usage in a day, and that too not continuously but in chunks.

I have decided to use my cyber detox to read books and also do outdoor activities like walking or spending time with nature. I feel more than ever that my time on the internet is turning into an addiction, and you can agree that any behavior can become addictive if you use it to the extent that it makes you feel uncomfortable, and I have probably crossed that limit.

So I have decided that at the beginning of my cyber detox, I will set a limit on how much time I spend on my device and how I spend it and will spend only as much time as is necessary. I know that initially it will seem like a battle with myself, but I have experience with it, and I will handle it.

I would like to tell you that before giving up any addiction, if you take your friends and family into confidence, then the task becomes easier because then you become accountable to them. So that's why I am writing this article to inform you all that I am planning to take a partial cyber break, so you may not expect immediate replies to your texts, posts, comments or tagging. I may also take a break from moderation for 4 weeks.

So for your information, I am planning to reduce my screen time to a certain number of hours per day in my cyber free time and will spend my cyber time on writing only 1 post. I will stop crypto and stock trading altogether, which will save me a lot of time. I have already worked on my WhatsApp time, so I will limit all my focus to my one daily post and newbie program.

Trust me, I am not saying that working online is inherently bad. In fact, it is a very important and necessary thing for every person in today's era, but the problem is that its excessive use can have some negative effects, so I think we may need a cyber detox from time to time. I think although I am not very active on social media, constant use of any internet medium can be tiring in general and increases stress, anxiety, and depression.

I feel like I have been neglecting my body, and my exercise and walking have reduced, and outings have definitely slowed down, so I decided this is a sign for me to take a break from the internet even if it is partial.

I would like to reiterate that cyber detox does not mean completely cutting off all forms of online communication. It means that I will be more mindful about who I use these platforms with and how I use them and gradually schedule my time in a way that takes up as little time as possible and also accomplishes my goals.

I would like to mention here that the duration of a cyber detox is a personal choice, and I do it as an experiment. Like this time, I have chosen a period of one month in which I will reduce internet usage by about 25% and focus only on my top priorities.

I understand that taking a break from media helps us gain a new perspective in our lives and it proves to be extremely beneficial for our mental health, including reduced anxiety, better focus and an opportunity to self-reflect.

Don’t you think that cyber detox is more about cleansing your mind than your body and it also affects your physical health. Cutting down on screen use, especially before bed, can have a positive effect on the quality of our sleep. And there's no doubt that replacing our internet time with physical activity improves our overall health.
