A Contest : What’s Your Choice : Money, Peace, or Happiness
What is the biggest problem facing society today?
I guess it is the lack of social responsibility and not money the responsibility that brings money, peace and happiness at a rapid rate. Apart from this, we are suffering badly due to social media which is no longer just a medium of communication and entertainment, but it has become a big platform that deeply affects the mindset of society. We are not yet ready to give value to society but are interested in getting everything from the government. We only know about our rights but are not ready to fulfill our duty.
It's a big shortcoming that ignores dignity and morality in the name of freedom of expression has now become common. Recently, the comment by famous YouTubers that hurt the dignity of parents became a topic of discussion on social media.
This was not just the expression of a particular person but is a symbol of a widespread problem. Morality, love, kindness, and respect have always been given an important place in any culture. Yet today we live in a time where these values are continuously declining on public forums. In the guise of entertainment and comedy, abusive words, double-meaning dialogues, and insulting comments are being normalized. Is this our freedom of expression? Can this be called creativity?
Due to the influence of Western culture, which is not bad in itself or for their moral standards, we should look at all the aspects of the same, and with the easy availability of the Internet, the young generation is increasingly being influenced by digital content. It would not be wrong to say that in this era of social media, the scale of popularity has fallen. The more sensational, provocative, or obscene the content is, the more it is viewed and appreciated.
It is ironic that the same values that our youth talk about being proud of are now seeming archaic and uncomfortable to them. The OTT platforms today are also playing a big role in this direction. The way abuse, violence, and obscenity are being normalized is worrying.
Earlier, strict censor rules were applicable to cinema and television, due to which entertainment was presented within a limited scope. But now, due to the digital revolution, this control has almost ended. In today's era, social media platforms are open to any kind of content, due to which the content worth watching with the family is continuously decreasing.
The biggest concern is that such content is affecting children and teenagers. Parents are often unable to understand what their children are watching online and what kind of mindset they are developing. In the digital age, mobile and internet are so easily available in the hands of children that they can access any type of content without any hindrance.
vThe result is that even before learning the lessons of morality and decency, they are getting trapped in the quagmire of obscenity and immorality. The root of this problem is not only social media but also the mentality of the society. Today, if a person creates any kind of controversial or insulting content, he also gets the support of a large number of viewers. There is applause, videos go viral, and content creators get fame and financial benefits from it.
What solution do you propose?
As long as the society itself continues to encourage such content, its impact will not decrease. It is true that every person has the right to say his point, but this right should be with responsibility. Freedom of expression does not mean that we start saying and showing anything by breaking our culture, values, and social limits.
For the creation of a healthy society, it is necessary that a clear line be drawn between creativity and obscenity. Today, governments around the world are becoming cautious about the ill effects of social media. Recently, Australia, my present country has banned social media use by children under the age of 16. Many problems related to social media are also increasing rapidly wold wide which should be looked upon without any further delay.
Not only the addiction of youth, but also obscenity and immorality spread on digital platforms, has also become a serious issue. We have to understand that digital platforms are not only a means of entertainment, but they have also become important tools that determine the direction and condition of our society.
In such a situation, now the time has come for the government to impose strict rules on social media and OTT platforms. The boundaries of censorship and morality should be redefined. Also, parents will also have to understand their responsibility and ensure what type of content their children are watching. Digital education should not be limited to technical knowledge only, but it should also be mandatory to include morality and discretion in it.
How can people work together to bring change?
Our society today is going through a phase of transition, where the conflict between tradition and modernity is clearly visible. It is not necessary that modernity mean obscenity and immorality. We have to decide what kind of digital culture we want to adopt.
If we do not work collectively or not able to stop this declining level, it will not only be limited to the decline of entertainment but can also cause deep damage to the basic structure of the society. That is why we have to decide now whether we want to move towards a civilized, ethical, and cultured digital society, or are we ready to erase our cultural identity in the blind game of likes, views, and viral content?

You are right, where we used mobile phones after reaching a certain age, today's children are learning to use mobile phones before they reach a certain age and they are learning all the processes of mobile phones. In addition, they are trying to create their own lives by watching different types of videos on mobile phones, where they are facing a lot of problems in adapting themselves to nature and they are also moving away from people, i.e. their own family members.
