What is the most famous festival of your country? when it is celebrated or occurs?
I am from India. People of all religions live in my country. Many festivals are famous in my country according to different religions.
For the people of Hindu religion, many festivals like Holi, Deepawali, Rakshabandhan are important.
Eid is considered a major festival in Muslim religion.
Christmas Day is considered the biggest festival in Christianity.
Lohri festival is important in Sikh religion. I am from Hindu religion, for me Deepawali and Holi are the most important festivals.
I like Holi festival the most. This year on March 14, Holi festival was celebrated with great pomp in my country. Holi festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm in India. This festival is celebrated on the full moon day of Phalgun month.
Holi festival is of two days, on the first day Holika Dahan takes place and on the second day colors are played.
What is the significance of that festival in your country's traditions and in your religion?
Holi festival is celebrated for many important reasons such as victory of good over evil: This festival is associated with the story of Holika Dahan which symbolizes the destruction of Hiranyakashyap's sister Holika.
This story gives the message of victory of good over evil. Arrival of Spring: Holi symbolizes the arrival of spring season. This is the time of new harvest and new beginnings.
Social Harmony:
This festival brings people together, which reduces social discrimination. People celebrate happiness by applying colors to each other and hugging.
Festival of Love and Friendship:
Holi is a festival of love and friendship. People express their love and respect towards each other.
Importance of Holi colors:
Holi colors are not just for joy but they also have their own importance. These colors symbolize energy, vibrancy and happiness.
How is that festival celebrated? Is there any traditional foods or activities linked to it?
As I have also mentioned above that Holi festival is of two days. On the first day Holika Dahan takes place and on the second day colors are played.
Holika Dahan:
On the day of Holika Dahan, people make a pile of wood and cow dung cakes and burn it. Holika Dahan is a symbol of the victory of good over evil. On this day, people pray to God that all the evils of their lives be removed.
Festival of colours:
The next day of Holika Dahan, everyone applies colours and gulal to each other. On this day, people celebrate by dancing and singing. On the day of Holi, people forget their old grievances and meet each other.
Traditional food:
Many types of traditional food are made in the festival of Holi like Gujiya, Dahi Bade, Thandai, Papad, Kanji, Mathri, Namak Pare etc.
Traditional activities:
Many types of traditional activities are done in the festival of Holi like playing with colours, dancing, singing, playing with water etc.
What is one unique fact about this festival that most people do not know?
Holi festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm not only in India but also in many other countries.
Some unique facts related to Holi:
The old name of Holi was Holika. The festival of Holi brings people closer to each other and eliminates mutual discrimination.
People of all religions celebrate this festival together. This festival is not only a celebration of colors but also a symbol of the victory of good over evil.
The festival of Holi is a symbol of love, happiness and unity. This festival teaches us that we should always celebrate the victory of good over evil.
