Contest : Freedom of the Press, Voice of the People-Your Thoughts Matter
What role does the press play in society? Why is it important for a healthy democracy?
In my own understanding, the role of the press in a society is something that is very important to the citizens because the press serves as a safeguard for the individuals, an informer, and a facilitator of public matters. A free press in the society provides information to the citizen about what is going on both in government and corporate practices, which helps in ensuring transparency and accountability within the individuals of the state.
Free press Democracy is something that is very important to all the citizens of the state because it allows the citizens to make decisions that matter to them and helps in promoting civic engagement and interaction both with the government and with themselves to know their stand. For democratic institutions to be in good shape, press freedom needs to be safeguarded so that it can create an informed and engaged populace among the citizens.
Is social media a part of the press? Should freedom of expression apply equally there?
Even from the word social, you can know that it is the key factor for press to be successful in a particular state. The press nowadayshas to pass through social media because it is from the media that the citizens share their information, news other important things worldwide with just a couple of clicks.
In social media, freedom of expression is totally free because one individual can just stand up and make content concerning a certain thing that has benefits for others, but in some aspects it can also be harmful to society because some misuse it by posting false and fake information for others, which may cause harm to other citizens. But in real terms, freedom of speech is totally free for all citizens, both in real life and also on social media too.
What would a society without press freedom look like? Can you imagine such a future?
A society without press freedom is a society full of darkness and misinformation.
Imagining a society without press freedom looking for progress. Such societies without press freedom likely experience censorship, misinformation within themselves, and a lack of accountability among the power holders in the society. In a society where there is no accurate information, it mostly leads the people to widespread ignorance and a reduction of public vigilance regarding societal issues.
In a society where there is no press freedom will bring about political corruption and also weaken the society's democratic system, which is a good sign for the future.
If you were a journalist, what topic would you write about and why?
If I am the journalist, the topic I will like to talk about is the Necessity of free press for the youth. It is mostly said that the youths are the leaders of tomorrow, but in reality the voice of the youths is no longer necessary in our state.
The elders are supposed to work with the youths by guiding them on how the present is being done as much as they are preparing themselves for the future, but it is not so. The elders are now working with the elders only, leaving the youths behind without even listening to their request, which is very bad in this democratic world that we are in.
