A dream is a wish your heart makes.....
Cin-der-elly is the maid-en, at the balllllllllllllllllllll....
Bibi-di Bobi-di Boo......

You can never get to hear these songs when reading the Cinderella book, except it's an audiobook. You can't feel the goosebumps, the emotions, the hatred, or the wickedness in the book. That's why most book writers have channelled their books to be demonstrated or seen on the screen. But they both have something in common... The four walls of a book and a screen. They both have a front and a back with two sides. It's just that while books favour the masses, as anyone can read a book free of charge in the library or by just browsing, you can't see a movie on screen free of charge.

I can remember spending hours in the library, reading books with pictures, of which Cinderella, Snow White and others were my best fairy tales. Without the pictures on the books, I won't read. This implied that even while I was a fan of reading books, I love when the characters are seen and talk more of hearing their voices. Thanks to technology, our books are now filmed on screens. We get to hear the characters talk out loud and dance.

Do you think an idea is better written as a book/novel or acted out as a movie? And which do you prefer?

Action speaks louder than words

To me, I feel an idea is better acted out as a movie because of the following reasons. Let's take the school settings, for example. Reading how to balance an equation in a chemistry textbook can be frustrating, as you'll have to go over and over and over the text just to understand the idea written. You may begin to ask yourself, How is this symbol here? Where is the 2 from? But if you watch how to balance equations in a tutorial video on YouTube or you get to see someone express action, you'll definitely understand better because actions speak louder than words.

Now let's bring it to the book setting. The way the world is going now has made it difficult for people to read books again. Technology has done its colonisation, and everything is digital. We even have audiobooks to express words and ideas and convey emotions even though the action isn't seen. Today, people watch movies on a daily basis, and then to understand the idea in that movie far more than reading a book with polished English and the ideas, the pictures, emotions, and actions aren't forthcoming.

You just do yourself a favour by improving your vocabularies with the words you see and also enhance your reading skills. When an idea is acted as a movie, you get to see the characters perform these actions, demonstrate certain emotions and put joy and excitement in your mind and heart. Have you heard of tension or suspense? It's better felt and seen in movies. The suspense won't be as intense in a book as in a movie; worst of all, your phone turns off in the most interesting part. You can do anything to get that phone on.

1000924738.jpg

But if someone disturbs you while reading a tense part, you may key in to the disturbance and continue reading. I prefer watching a movie to reading a book or novel because I get to see the action done in the movie that I can't see in the book. I get to listen to the songs played, which can't be possible when reading books. I can watch a 2-hour movie with excitement, find it intriguing and understand the main idea the author was trying to convey better than reading a 200-page book in a day.

It's going to be an impossible task for me because the focus won't be there, and it would be boring. I may read and still not understand, but watching a movie clips all the actions and songs to my brain. Even in 10 years, I can remember the action done by the characters. My reasons, though.

Watch any movie adapted from a book or novel

Who hasn't read or watched the popular Cinderella fairytale, a non-fictional form of writing.? No child born in the early 2000s would tell me they haven't read the Cinderella book or watched the cartoon movie. This was the first book I read when I visited the electronic library in my city. The cover page got me, and every page had colourful pictures and text, which made it even more interesting to read until the cartoon movie came out.

I abandoned the book. I used to read Times without numbers and started watching it on screen. I'll tell you about the movie and why it feels different when reading. This is the narration bit before the narration. I'll give a quick specification that can keep us on track or give us tips on what the movie I watched looks like.

We have three Cinderella movies that are released and drawn from the story by the authors above. Movie directors changed the settings of the story but still allowed the main idea to stand out.

Fairytale Animated MovieCinderella 1950
Adventure MovieCinderella 2015
Comedy and fantasyCinderella 2021

These are the categories the movies are, but it all started in the 1950s. These three sets all have different characters, as most casts in the 1950s are long dead. The 1950 Cinderella drawn from the book is an animated movie. It's about an ambitious young lady whose stepmother tries all she can to stop her from achieving her dreams. This is one of the reasons she came up with the song that A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes.

Everyone has a dream to fulfil in life, and at some point, barriers set in, preventing these ones from achieving their dreams of a better future. Little did the stepmother know that there's always light at the end of a dark tunnel and that you can't cover a burning candle with a basket to block its shine.

1000932302.jpg

A long time ago, Cinderella lost her mother, making her father remarry another woman who appears to be the Wicked Stepmother. In no time, he dies, leaving her alone with her stepmother, Lady Tremaine, and her two daughters, Driselle and Anastasia. These three frustrated Cinderella in such a way that she didn't have a day in her father's house.

1000932300.jpg

She was being rendered as a maid, doing all the dishes, the laundry, scraping cinders, cleaning the house and other house chores. She does all these with time, and even with her hard work, the three disciples refused to see the good in her because they were jealous of her beauty and her being ambitious. The birds, mice, dogs and other animals were friends with her and admired her every move.

They do help her with chores, but the chores were unending. She barely gets to rest during the day. This is one of the reasons she's called Cinderella: because she marries cinders on a daily basis and her name is Ella. So they combined the cinder and Ella and gave her this fitting name.

As an ambitious lady, she is passionate about garment making, to continue the trade line of her late mother. She would sew garments for the villagers, and they liked her work. One day, the king of the kingdom orders all the maidens in the village assembly at the palace for a ball night where his son, the prince, would choose a bride for himself.

Every maiden was sent an invitation, which Cinderella received and took to her stepmother. The stepmother received the invitation and showed her daughters. Cinderella was keen on coming along and told her stepmother about her plans, as she could meet people that would change her life and career for the better. Her stepmother muted her, as she had other plans for Cinderella.

When the D-Day came, the stepmother tore the clothes Cinderella and her friends sewed to dress for the ball and locked her inside while they dressed in their elegance for the castle. Depressed and frustrated, she wept, as there was no other option for her. Her life was about to change magically when her fairy godmother appeared and told her not to worry and that she'll attend the ball. With one whip of her magic wand, everything changed, and Cinderella was dressed in the most beautiful way with her friends as horses and chariot riders.

The prince didn't accept any of the maidens until Cinderella stepped in with her elegance, though confused. The prince walked up to her and they had the best evenings ever until it was close to midnight. Cinderella remembered the warning given to her to return before midnight. She left the prince and ran back home before the magic wore off, leaving one of her slippers behind. Cinderella ran home and pretended to be sleeping so as not to arouse interest from her rivals.

1000932311.jpg

A quick search was done in all houses for the maiden whose leg could fit into the slipper. The Duke came to Cinderella's house and tried it on her stepsister, but it couldn't fit them. Cinderella, on the other hand, was locked in and prevented from wearing it until her friends stole the key to the locked room and rescued Cinderella. She wore the shoe to the surprise of her stepsisters and was taken to the castle where she married the prince, and they lived happily ever after.

1000932315.jpg

In reality, this happens, as many who are called masters want others to keep on working for them till they die. They dread to see the progress of those they call maids or house help. 50% of people are victims of this situation, and they don't have a voice because they are orphans or far off from their parents.

From the movie you have watched above, what can you say about the strength and weakness of the movie compared to the book/novel but if you have not read the book then tell us what captivated you the most in the movie and if you were to write a book on the movie how would that part be written to captivate the reader?

Strengths

The movie has lots of strengths compared to the book itself. One of such is the action done by the characters which can't be seen in the book but can only be imagined. Let's take, for example, the ball setting. You get to see all the maidens dance to the music played and the rejection of these maids by the prince. Another strength was bringing magic into reality as though it happened for real.

When you hear people saying magic would happen, they expect the unexpected. You get to see Cinderella transform gradually into a beautiful princess with enchanted beauty. The costumes used are clearly seen; the transformation and ball setting were just so perfect. In the book, you'll just be told that the prince danced gracefully with Cinderella. If you're someone who finds it hard to understand what words mean, you'll keep a dictionary beside it, and it makes the reading boring.

You don't get to see Cinderella move her legs or hold the prince's arms and shoulders, and you don't get to hear any song played in the background. This is where the movie has strength over the book itself.

Weaknesses

Everything has its strengths and weaknesses. The weakness of this movie is that it makes us lazy to think and feel what Cinderella felt. Let's take, for example, when she was down because her clothes were torn. Viewers would only get the moral depth and emotions in the scenes but won't be able to sit on Cinderella's thoughts. The timing in the movie tends to rush everything, but when reading the book, you can read it over and over again and imagine how she felt when such happened and also try to picture the scenes with the man's eye. The movie doesn't give room for creative thinking, imagination, vocabulary development and lots more, as everything is displayed on screen, more like an expo that doesn't make viewers check dictionaries and sentences they tend not to understand.

1000924722.jpg I turned this1000929500.png to this

If I were to write a book on the movie, my words would be as simple and easy to understand as if it were not encrypted in a novel setting. Pictures would be seen on every page to capture the minds of the readers, as they'll not have to imagine if Cinderella wore a blue dress or if the prince was fat. This applies to the transformation of Cinderella as the ball queen. Readers won't see or feel this transformation. They can only imagine it.

Adding a picture on the page of the book would help improve their imagination, and changing the tone to a love setting would make readers know the dance wasn't just a dance but a dance to knowing oneself better and bonding in love. I would also add what happened after their marriage, as I hate a book ending in a happily ever after. With this, readers would know that Cinderella had a life aside from her love life, and she fulfilled her dreams of becoming the best fashion designer, a dream she wished when she was still in her frustrated state of torture.

In conclusion, a dream is a wish your heart makes. While your heart makes this dream to achieve in the future, you use your hands to make it work. To every tortured human being either living in their relative's place or working as a maid, know you have a purpose other than serving your Boss. To all my animation movie lovers.....♥️
