Traditional Bengali Thali | A part of celebrating Bangla New Year!
14th April is the first day of Bangla New Year. We call it Pohela Boisakh in our native Bangla!
We have our own Bangla calendar, you will get to see many people especially the one who lives in rural areas and are connected with agricultural work use this calendar. Because it's easy to calculate agricultural moths on our own calendar. Though nowadays people usually follow the English/international one. But we don't forget to celebrate the first day of our Bangla Month!
Traditional Bangla Thali
We usually celebrate this day with different cultural events, social gatherings, family & friends hang out and all. It's a national holiday so the whole nation comes to celebrate this day.
Part of it is to enjoy traditional Bangla food, which is rice with fish fry (usually Hilsha fish) and different smashed vegetables(Varta) and dishes. From dried fish varta to potato varta, from eggplant fry to any green vegetable; we love to have those on this very occasion. I have captured this photo while attending a lunch invitation to one of my friend's houses during Bangla New Year.
I have made a detailed post about our Bangla New Year celebration Here a few days ago. You can check that out for more detail.
