Analysis and Comments
- The reported total LFLs of -39.1% (Fashion -40.3%) mark a less severe downturn than some analysts sector average assumption of -80% for the week.
- At present, the majority of non-food retail stores in the UK are closed, however with the notable exception of Next, the majority of clothing retailers are continuing to fully operate online.
- The outperformance this week versus the street expectations has therefore come from online (non-store) sales, with BDO reporting a very strong +77.3% across all non-food retail categories.
- While a category breakdown is not provided, the data implies a significant year-on-year increase in online fashion sales.
