The Social Power In Making Merry

in Project HOPE15 hours ago (edited)

One of the things that I have understood is that there is power in sharing joy within your community. In the world we live in, the benefits of making merry is not just about personal entertainment, but it goes beyond it, and it has the power to uplift the community. Imagine if someone organizes a celebration party in your neighborhood for example, people will gather to share joyful moments, they will be happy and laugh, but more importantly, the ripple effect can transform the entire neighbourhood. Making merry has a way of creating unity, oneness, and promotes the spirit of togetherness. Spreading joy within the community is part of what strengthens and builds the fabric of society.

Life may present you with some toughness, but you can make a choice to choose joy. The joy that makes the most impact is the one that is shared. When you share joy - maybe through social events like parties, festivals, community event, it helps to build bridges between people. I remember the event that normally holds in the place where I once lived some years ago. At the end of the year, the neighbourhood will hold series of events and even include football competition. This drew participation from the neighbouring places too. At the event, everyone bonded easily, and you may even meet people who, normally, you may not have met without heavy protocols. At a point, some of the National team senior players graced the occasion. Imagine how we felt seeing physically the people that we only saw on television. That is the social power of making merry.

When individuals engage in making merry within their community in their own capacity, they will create a safe space for people to be valued and accepted. These include street party, cultural festival, and even religious gatherings. You have to understand that this is not just about gathering people in one place, nor is it about entertainment, but it has the power to create opportunities, build human bridges, show empathy, and nurture kindness. There is a particular contact I made from the birthday party of my friend that was held some years back which has affected my life positively in ways I never imagined. It opened opportunities for me that I never even thought existed. Imagine if the party was not held, how would I have gotten the contact. This shows the social power of making merry.

It is also worthy to note that spreading joy within the community also has positive effects on the psychological and mental health. You will observe that people who always spread joy and make merry hardly become depressed - this is because they will keep meeting people, interacting with them, stay happy, and then build up themselves. This can be part of the reasons why people pay to attend various entertaining events, like comedy shows, sport competitions, parties, etc. The world is also becoming too tasking and demanding that one needs to find ways to cool off their head to avoid too much stress and strain. The more you come in contact with people who make merry, the merrier you become too, which does good to the mental health.

You have to understand that making merry or spreading joy does not require massive gestures. You will be surprised that small things that some people may even overlook can be an instrument of spreading joy. During the close of last year, the group that I belong to organised a picnic for the members. The picnic was organised in a way that there was no central food or drink, rather everyone would come with their own food and share with others, while they will also share from other people's own. The kind of joy we shared was remarkable and the memories we created will last a very long time. Sometimes, it is not about the size of what you use for the merriment, but the heart, and the sense of belonging and the inclusiveness it creates.

As a way of concluding, I want to remind you that making merry is not just about catching fun with people, but it is an act of making the world a better place. Trust me, when you make a choice of sharing joy, others will look at you, emulate you, and do the same. At the end, the world will be happier and better for you and everyone.
