Education And Personal Growth

in Project HOPE2 days ago

The role of education in shaping someone's life and influencing what their future will look like is without question. We have seen people who almost everyone thought that they will not amount to anything, but through education, they were able to break through the limitations and achieved greatness. It is worthy to note that education is not just about getting knowledge of how to read and write, or how to communicate effectively with people, it goes beyond that. It is a very powerful tool that gives someone an open mind, sharpens their mentality, builds their character, and equips them with the necessary skills to solve real life problems. Just to let you know; education forms the foundation upon which a lot of things, including dreams, can be built on.

When I talk about education, you should not limit it to just the four-walls of the school. In fact, there are people who went to school but school did not go through them and they are not even educated. Yet there are people without the formal conventional schooling system, yet have gathered so much learning and education that you cannot even imagine. You need to understand that there are lots of things in life and in our everyday lives that will teach us lessons to make us get better. In fact, even life itself is a great teacher, which, as you go through it, you will see a lot of things to learn. As long as you are alive, then there is something to be learnt. This is because education is a continuous lifelong process, not what you do once and abandon.

I have come to understand that one of the very important ways by which education can enhance personal growth is by empowering you. You would have heard this phrase; "knowledge is power." The more you are educated and the more you are knowledgeable, at least in a particular field, the more you will gain power and relevance. When you have better knowledge, your decisions will be better than it was before you gained knowledge. You will agree with me that it becomes easier to accomplish a task and make better choices in life when you are educated. This is because you will become better at analysing, processing, and solving problems - which ultimately leads to personal growth.

It is worth noting that what is rewarded is not the process but the result. That is, it is not the effort but the end-result. By gaining more knowledge, you will be focused more on the result that you want to obtain, and not just to be throwing trials around. Education gives you precision of action, thereby making you better productive. Trust me, the same thing that took someone months to figure out can be accomplished by someone else in a matter of hours with the right tool and knowledge.

Education also helps one to build up their level of confidence and encourages independence. If you see someone who is educated talk, or when you relate with them, you will see their confidence. This is not pride nor overestimation of self, but the knowledge of who you are and the value and worth you place on yourself. It is this kind of confidence that makes one to attempt new things, blaze new trail, take relative risks, and undertake new tasks. There are things you can comfortably attempt when you have grown extensively in knowledge. If you find something difficult to do, the problem might not be that it is not doable but that you have not been equipped with the right knowledge to do it. So go for more knowledge.

Education also inculcates values and the necessary principles that will help to shape your character. It is through education that people are taught about respect, courtesy, discipline, morals, patience, and above all, empathy. Even as a leader in your own capacity, you will discover that educated people are easier to lead. You should also know that education does not come without a cost and a price, but it is this that will guarantee the prize. If you are not willing to pay the cost of education, then you may stand the risk of paying a bigger cost - the cost of ignorance. Make your choice.
