"Sleepmaxxing", a new trend

Source
"Sleepmaxxing· is a new trend on TikTok where users share tips to improve sleep quality and duration.
Among the most popular recommendations are: taping your mouth when sleeping, avoiding drinks in the two hours before bedtime, maintaining a cool temperature in the bedroom, reducing light, using white noise machines, not setting an alarm in the morning, showering before bedtime, eliminating caffeine, consuming kiwis before bedtime, and taking magnesium and melatonin supplements.
Getting 30 minutes of sunlight daily and meditating for half an hour are also suggested.
Many of these strategies are considered good sleep habits by professionals, such as reducing caffeine and alcohol, regular physical activity and a consistent sleep schedule. However, insomnia sufferers should seek professional help.
Some recommendations, such as the use of mouth tape or nasal expanders, lack sound scientific support. Although it has been suggested that eating kiwis may promote sleep, supplements such as melatonin are not always effective and may mask underlying problems.
Experts advise assessing whether changes in sleep habits are really needed and keeping track of rest. If it takes longer than 30 minutes to fall asleep or you wake up during the night frequently, it is advisable to consult a doctor. Remember that sleep should not become a stressful obligation.
