Fighting for Steem: make your witness voting as efficient as possible

in OCD5 years ago (edited)

Hi there my Steemian friends and followers!

With so many call-to-action posts appealing to Steemians to use their witness votes that have been published by a number of people (including me) here on Steem in the last couple of days, I am pretty sure a vast majority of us have already done that by now, which is great as it has helped us get back about a half of the consensus witness spots.

However, as I realized after reading some of the latest posts on this topic, there are still some ways to further improve the efficiency of your witness voting. This goes especially for those who cast their witness votes a long time ago as there is a high probability that some of the witnesses that you supported with your votes are no longer running their servers.

Even some of the popular witnesses backed by a lot SP such as @utopian-io or @xeldal are not active anymore as you can see in the screen shot below so please make sure you support only enabled witnesses.

The next point I would like to talk about here is something not everyone will like but I still want to mention it. You know it´s absolutely crucial for us to have as many witnesses in the top 20 as possible as that´s where the real battle takes place.

With that being said, you might want to review your witness votes, unvote some of those who currently have no chance to make it to the top 20 and give those votes to the ones who are close to making it up there.

I know this can hurt. I just did it myself too as I just unvoted some of my favorite projects/guys/groups here like @travelfeed and @qurator and used those votes to support our "front line fighters" who have the potential to be much stronger competitors for Sun´s sock puppet witnesses. Of course, as soon as this war is over and our blockchain is safe again, I will review my votes again and give them back to where I feel are most deserved and needed and you can do the same too.

The last thing I would like to remind you here may sound a bit pointless to some but unfortunately, it is not as there have already been quite a few cases where some of our fellow Steemians (only by mistake, I hope!) voted for Sun´s witnesses. Unless you really want our blockchain to be centralized, please support our old witnesses only.

Sometimes, our old witnesses and Sun´s sock puppets are a sort of mixed up in the top 20 but it´s still very easy to tell them apart.

Our witnesses use avatars and most of them should be familiar to you but most importantly, it´s the version number they run what makes the difference here. Sun´s sock puppet accounts all run the 0.22.5 version while our witnesses run different versions (as you can see in the screen shot above).

Even though we have reclaimed many posts in the top 20 by now, we definitely cannot feel too comfortable. This battle is not over yet and rumors have it Sun has been buying a lot of Steem lately (which would also explain why the Steem price is not dropping as much as that of other coins) and we might soon be up for some more and very intense fights. So let´s keep on pushing guys.

We are Steem and we are going to fight for our world!

Thank you my friend. I am sure you cast your witness votes with maximum efficiency :)

Yes exactly.

Very important post indeed! I think it's time for the community to not only unite, but to most importantly get together and analyse/study what has gone wrong on our system and make the changes.

Thanks for supporting @travelfeed, we'd love to get to top 20 and we do have solid plans to make our platform work in benefit of the ecosystem.

Thanks for your feedback man, much appreciated. Like I said, it was not easy for me to remove the votes from projects like @travelfeed but don´t worry, I will put it back as soon as this craziness is over ;)

With that being said, you might want to review your witness votes, unvote some of those who currently have no chance to make it to the top 20 and give those votes to the ones who are close to making it up there.

It seems inevitable to act like this, as Steem is designed with 1t30v voting rule. It reminds me US Republicans vs Democrats duopoly. Marketed as decentralised, strong oligarchy underneath.
