Betterlife -The Diary Game |21st February 2025 | A Tribute to Our Mother Language, Celebration, and Togetherness

I hope you are you in good health and having a lovely time. It was spring—the world around me spoke in the soft whisper of a warm breeze and the delicate fragrance of blooming flowers. About the beauty of nature, it felt like it's more beautiful today because today was a special day for us Bangladeshi people, 21st February, International Mother Language Day.
It is also the day we remember the struggles of our language martyrs who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we may read, write and speak in our native tongue — Bangla. Their indomitable courage birthed a movement that would ultimately define our national character. The sacrifices they made in 1952, has become the reason we are able to speak, read and write in a Bangla we can be proud of today. On this day, in memory of the martyrs, we don white and black saree.

Since February 21st was a Friday, this year we did a small program in our community. BAF Shaheen School which is under BAFWA had arranged a Spelling Competition as an event. The competition was held earlier, and prizes and certificates were awarded today.

I got up early, with a little worry but also a little excitement. I draped my black saree and went to the BAFWA office, where the event was being held. When we got there, we suspended until our chief guest, our organization president. When she came in, we took some pictures together and started the program.

As the host of today's program, I opened the event by honoring the language martyrs. Later I called our honorable president on the stage, who gave away prizes and certificates to the winner. Seeing those proud young students receive their awards was the heartening part of the evening. This is a beautiful memory that we took with pictures on this special day. The president also offered a brief address to the children, encouraging them to preserve our language and history. That brought us to the end of the program.

When coming home, I relaxed for a bit before hitting the kitchen to make lunch. It had been already a great day, but I had a very nice appointment in the evening.

I went to a bhabi’s house in the afternoon with a bunch of other friends. We did a surprise small baby shower for her that day, which was so much fun to plan and see her surprised, happy. We all had snacks together, and we laughed together, and ate together, and exchanged gifts. A beautiful moment of love and friendship that made the day even more special.”

This has been life and life of a different kind and as I sit in bed at night reflecting on the day this knowledge brings me such comfort. Between paying tribute to our language martyrs early in the day and welcoming a new life in the evening, today served as another reminder of how meaningful life can be through these wonderful connections.
Some of the days are normal days, and some of the days leave an imprint on the heart today was one of those days.
