Her Name was Elder Mrs. Jenny Bassey Ekpo and she was one of the practical people I have seen in life. Life is more realistic when it is practiced than read or studied.

She was fondly called Mma Teacher, was born on the 6thbof April 1942 into the family of Late Archibong Inyang Akpan Umoh, of Nnung Inyang Ambid, Mbiaya Uruan in South South State of Nigeria.

She had her Primary Education at Presbyterian Primary School, Mbiaya Uruan, her Teacher Grade 3 certificate, and later her teacher grade 2 certificate. Her passion was education as she taught all through the state and rose to the tank of the Headmistress prior to retirement. Within this period, she has mentored and transformed the lives of many young people who would have naturally been destroyed into citizens with great contribution to be society.

She was married to late Obong Bassey Ekpo(JP) and the marriage is blessed with 5 children whom became her friends until her time on earth finished. She loved God and singing.

She loved this particular song

Ndot enyin ke Abasi emi mboutde idem nno; Ima Esie kpupru ini Etie ukem-ukem. Mfiokke Nyomke Efen, ke ebede Enye ( All my hope from God is founded who does still my trust in you; Through all change and chance God guide me. Only good and only true. Love on unknown, God alone, calls my heart to be God's own)

A Phenomenal Mother Indeed!!!

Mrs. Jenny was a beautiful woman; her beauty was in and out; she was physically beautiful, her inner beauty (Character) as well was outstanding and it endeared many to her. mong her attributes were selflessness, contentment, self-control, and time consciousness. Giving was her lifestyle; you will never come to her home and not go back with something. In her words , she will say, " mbo mi dep suop yed ofong mfo" (which means," collect money and buy soap to wash your clothes") and will hand some money to you.

Unless you are being told, you will never tell that the children under her roof were not all her biological children, because there was no segregation between them. She was generous and strict in terms of discipline.

After some years of battling with ill health, she went to rest with her creator.

Her good works will be remembered here on earth. May her soul rest in peace.
