THE DIARY GAME Steemit Philippines Community Contest || A Day in My Life as a Teacher in the New Normal Education
Magandang buhay po sa lahat!!!
I am April Marie Yaun, a public-school teacher in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu. This is my first post here in this community, and I’m really glad because I have come across to this contest THE DIARY GAME posted by @steemitphcurator. I want to participate in this contest because I want to share to you a day of my life as a public-school teacher in a new normal education.
Covid-19 Pandemic has affected our education. Since it is impossible to conduct face-to-face classes, the Department of Education proposed other learning modalities so that learning may still continue. In our school, Mactan National High School, we practiced two types of learning modality; Printed Modular and Digitized Modular.
For Digitized Modular, softcopies of self-learning modules will be forwarded to students and their outputs will also be submitted via email or Google Classroom. For Printed Modular, hardcopies of modules will be distributed every week. Parents will come to school on a scheduled date to collect new modules and submit their child’s output.
On this day, we conduct distribution of modules. This has always been our daily routine since the start of the school year. We can’t help but recall those times when everything was still in normal. The class discussion with our students, the fun and the laughter inside the classroom, the excitement in every class contest, not to mention the times you discipline and correct your students, I mean how is that gone now? It has only been a year since the start of pandemic, but it’s still feel like yesterday.
Anyways, my day begins with sorting and stapling modules, this becomes my-day-to-day activity. Here are some pictures of me and my colleagues doing the work. This may sound easy, but this would really take much of your time.
After sorting and stapling, I went back to my classroom to organize and arrange these modules to be distributed to parents.
Few hours after, just the right time, parents were already showing up. Since we are still at the height of pandemic, we required parents to follow safety protocols such as wearing of face mask and they must always observe social distancing. Thus, we only allow at most two parents to enter the classroom to get their child’s modules. But before they enter the classroom, they must fill-out first the contact tracing log sheet outside.
Well, every time parents went inside the classroom, I always guide and assist them in getting their modules since some of them are no-read, no-write. Also, when they have queries, I am always polite to answer. I also made sure to give them instruction on how their children would answer the modules, the process of submission, the consequences of not submitting their child’s output, and many others.
Meanwhile, since I am a Grade 11 adviser, and the schedule of our module distribution is at 8:00 am – 12:00 nn only. I am assigned to another task. Together with another grade 11 advisers, we would triage every afternoon since grade 12 advisers would triage every morning. Our function is to make sure that before the parents enter the school building, we must check first their body temperature and sanitize their hands. Still following the safety protocols.
Finally, it’s 4 pm already. Time to go home. I went back to my classroom and pack-up my things. Before I closed my room, I took a selfie to share here with you. It was a long and tiring day. But I am still happy and grateful to have this job. Being a teacher in this time of pandemic is not easy as what everyone thinks it is. I am also completely aware that it is also difficult on the part of the parents and the students. I mean we completely understand the situation that’s why we always give considerations. It has been hard to everyone, but I know we’ll get through this. Everything will be back to normal.
