Headaches, as we know, are caused by several factors, and it is usually a sign of symptoms of a disorder. Each time we experience a headache, it simply tells us of a potential abnormality with su a resultant symptom. Tension headache, just like one of those headaches, comes from a sudden feeling of tightness and/or pressure within the head region.

Symptoms:
  1. Presence of pains ranging from mild to moderate.
  2. Presence of sensation of tightness and/or pressure within the head and back region.
  3. Possibility of having tenderness with the head and neck region.
  4. Symptoms of pain, tightness, and tenderness can last for 30 minutes to days.
  5. The victim is susceptible to light and sound sensitivity.
Causes:

As I mentioned earlier, headaches are triggered by potential system abnormalities. Hence, tension headaches can not be an exemption to this. Some of the factors responsible include:

  1. Anxiety & Stress are potential triggers of tension headaches. When we are either psychologically or emotionally traumatized, this then triggers such aches. Most of us are victims of stress and anxiety.
  2. Muscle Strain from overuse or poor posture position of muscles over a longer period. Standing or sitting may also trigger these aches.
  3. Fatigue & Overindulgence are other triggers, as lack of sleep or overindulgence in a task could cause tension headaches.
  4. Eye Strain from longer screen time is another trigger for this. We have longer blink time on screen, which triggers tension headaches.
  5. Dehydration especially when we do not take fluid when necessary. This could be easily observed during the dry season in my country when we excessively sweat and dry moisture.
  6. Hunger is another factor that causes these triggers. We can observe this when we delay eating or while fasting.
Treatment
  1. We can treat tension headaches through the use of over-the-counter medications like ibuprofen. This is a quick fix to this ailment.
  2. We can reverse this trigger by having proper rest and relaxation. Indulging in physical therapy, and stress/anxiety exercises.
  3. Routine and regular exercises that help relax nerves and muscles.
  4. Adequate hydration that entails timely consumption of fluid at the right time.
  5. Timely meal and sleep time. Having our meals at the appropriate time without starving at first, as well as enough sleeping time.

Share your personal experience of how often you feel tension headaches in a month!

I indulge in an offline job that is tasking on most days. Field sales job that requires that targets are met month in and out, also comes with relatively headaches. From my listed causes of tension headaches, it is obvious I fall victim to most of these causes.

I find myself. Dealing with stress and anxiety from the job. Anxiety, most especially when one tries to be on top of the game.by delivering on expected KPIs.

Having fatigue and overindulgence on a prolonged task. Some tasks require a longer period to achieve. Hence, this tends to wear me out.

Dehydration and hunger both happen sometimes when we get carried away by the job because we need to achieve and conclude with a process.

In conclusion, it is inherent to have these happen to us from time to time as we continue to handle our "activities of daily living". However, it is imminent we always find a way of reversing this trend when it occurs.

I wish to invite @ngoenyi, @chilaw, @chommygift to participate in this contest.
