What is orthodontics and when is it necessary to use it?

*Orthodontic is a special field of dentistry that is has its aim to improve the position, appearance of crooked or crowded teeth. There are some people who have no problem with their teeth and all of them are lined up nicely and bite is correct but there are some people who from birth have problem with their teeth and often kids are teasing such kids. Luckily with such developed field of orthodontic specialists majority of deformed teeth are possible to correct and that is something that either parents or dentist can refer to that speciality. *

Have you had orthodontics, tell me how your experience was and if you haven't had them, do you think you need them

As to me, yes, I wanted to correct my canines because they were a bit twisted and were looking with a side forward. As little children maybe that was okay but I did not feel good when I was about 10 years old. So that was the time when we visited orthodontic specialist.

The orthodontist was very nice and spoke to me like I was an adult, there were couple of Xrays done and also he explained the whole process how many stages it will be and what to expect. I liked the attitude of a specialist and also immediately had trust into his skills.

Tell me what the components of orthodontic appliances are.

There are different type of appliances like metal and ceramic, they have brackets that are attached to teeth and connected with wires, with their help there is a constant pressure applied to teeth and they are shifted to the position that the teeth should get into.

Clear aligners they are clear, usually are fit over the teeth, they are easily removable and easy to clean them. Lingual Braces that are the same like traditional braces but they are discent and applied on inner side of teeth

Palatal Expanders they are there in order to expand the upper jaw if it is too narrow. Retainers that are used after the orthodontic treatment accomplished and everything in right place. Orthodontic Bands and Wires that used often to encircle the molars and acting as anchor to braces.

Tell me what the steps of orthodontics are?

There are few steps of orthodontic treatment. Very first is Consultation to introduce themselves and specialist should examine your mouth and do some Xray to have an idea about your mouth, bones and position of your teeth. The second step is bonding phase when the braces will be fit and brackets are applied. The third one regular adjustment stage that may take up to 60-8 weeks. Debonding stage when the braces will be removed and the final stage is retainer stage.
