Heart attack is the condition that we all heard, it is one of the commonest condition that people may suddenly die from. In the past it was fatal and often help came very late but nowadays with the development of medicine and investigations it is possible to predict heart attack and also we are able to prevent it.
What is the cause of heart attack? Heart is as any other organ has vessels that supplying our heart with blood and blood is oxygen. When we are born our heart has vessels that full of elasticity and their lumen is open, that is why there is enough oxygen arrives to heart. If we work or exercise then more oxygen arrives to heart and our heart able to supply all other organs with adequate amount of blood.
When we get older our vessels becoming slightly stiff, there are some calcification that contribute to stiffness. The other causes contributing to vessels disease are overweight, too much fatty and sugar too. The lumen of vessels then narrow and when we exercise our heart requires more blood flow, but if the vessels are not sufficient enough open then the area of heart suffers from lack of oxygen and becomes ischemic and that is the reason of pain. You also might know that one of the first aid is GTN spray that is spray that needs to be given under tongue dilates heart vessels and brings more blood with oxygen.
Due to lack of oxygen to heart muscle the main symptom is pain in chest, people describe like tightness in chest, the tip of heart is slightly tilted to left that is why pain often goes into left arm, left side of chest and neck. Shortness of breath is there because of lack of oxygenated blood and body compensate by increasing the breathing rate. Due to such strong pain people can loose consciousness.
We can prevent heart attack by improving our lifestyle, simple things simple:
- stop smoking, because that causes vessels diseases
- diet: reduce cholesterol, fat and sugar in your diet
- overweight, keep an eye on your body mass index
- physical fitness: regular exercises, walking, moving gym very important

Oxygen is very powerful for we humans and when it is not enough for our heart to pump that's where heart attack come's in that's why we need to be relaxed and stress less just to avoid it.
