Share your any experience of your life, in which you faced the emergency that could be handled by your own only if you know the basic first response skills. (2 marks)

Few years back when I was still in high school, It happened that my School was preparing for her Inter house Sports Competition and I was handed over some students to teach them Match Past. While we were practicing one day, suddenly one of the student fainted.

All my life, that was my first time of seeing someone faint. I always see that in Movies but haven't witnessed it before and I freaked out. I was so scared at that point and didn't know what to do. While we were trying to savage the situation by then, the students had already formed a Crowd there.

Suddenly, one of my Classmate forced herself into the Crowd and dispersed the Students. She immediately carried the girl to a shade, sprinkled water on her, lay her on her back, removed her clothes and started fanning her. I joined her in fanning her and in a few seconds she regained consciousness.

In my mind, I was like this was how someone could have lost her life because of Ignorance. After the whole scenario, I met my Classmate and asked her to teach me basic First aid techniques and she taught me.

Imagine you are walking back home, when you witness a road traffic accident between a car and a motorcycle, and the motorcyclist is lying on the road, not moving.g There’s some bleeding from his leg, and he appears to be unconscious. You being the first responder, how will you manage this scenario? (1.5 marks)

If I'm the first responder in the case of Traffic Accident Emergency, I would apply the DRABC Protocol which stands for

  • D: Danger
  • R: Response
  • A: Airway
  • B: Breathing
  • C: Circulation

By doing the following.

  • Ensure my Safety

I would first of all ensure that the environment is safe for I and the Victim by checking for any threats like leaking fire after that, I will turn on the hazard lights to alert the oncoming traffic.

  • Access the Situation

My next line of action is to check the motorist to know if his responsive by speaking to him to know if he will respond. I would also check out his pulse, breathing, level of bleeding and also for injury.

  • Call for help

The next step I will take is to call for help by dialing my Country's Emergency number and give them necessary information like location of the Accident, the state of the Victim and the nature of the accident.

  • Provide Care

The next step I would take is to check out the Victim to know his condition. If his bleeding, I would apply basic first aid treatment by using a clean cloth to apply direct pressure on the wound to stop the blood flow. If the Victim is unconscious and not breathing, then I would gently tilt his head back inorder to open the airways and then apply CPR.

  • Keep the victim warm

I would also cover the victim with a blanket or Jacket if it's available.

  • Stay with the Victim

I would stay with the victim until help comes.

Draw or Create an engaging illustration/flowchart of DRABC protocol (Try to be creative and don't forget to add your username on the illustration) (2.5 marks)
