Defines Morphological Anemia

When hemoglobin the protein that carries oxygen in the blood is deficient morphological anemia results in changes to the size or color of red blood cells. The two primary forms of this anemia are macrocytic anemia which has larger red blood cells than normal and microcytic anemia which has smaller red blood cells than normal. To diagnose certain kinds of anemia and determine the cause of the alterations in red blood cell composition medical professionals employ specialized measurements such as MCV (cell size) and MCH (hemoglobin content).

The color of red blood cells is equally as significant as their size. It is referred to as hypochromic anemia if the cells have a lighter hue, which indicates that there is less hemoglobin than usual. Occasionally the bone marrow generates these atypical cells more quickly when the body is deficient in nutrients like iron. These symptoms assist medical professionals diagnose the type of anemia a patient has and choose the best course of action for improving blood function.

Have you ever had anemia?

Yes anemia has affected me. I experienced it during my pregnancy in 2017 which presented some difficulties for me. Although anemia is normal during pregnancy if left untreated it can be very uncomfortable. The body needs more red blood cells to maintain the mother and the unborn child which is the main cause of it. Breathlessness was one of the main problems I had to contend with. I would get out of breath from simple things like walking or simply standing for extended periods of time. It was an ongoing struggle and I had to take additional precautions in my everyday routine to make sure I didnot get too tired or weak.

In addition to having trouble breathing I felt more exhausted than normal which made the even more difficult experience. In order to help with the problem my physician (Saba Bilal) prescribed iron supplements. She regularly checked my hemoglobin levels each month. It was difficult to manage my anemia during pregnancy .But with the correct support I was able to overcome it .And I become able give birth to a healthy baby girl.

Pathophysiologically, what happens with anemia?

When the body lacks the hemoglobin or red blood cells. Which are necessary to adequately transport oxygen to the tissues results anemia. The ability of red blood cells to carry oxygen is due to hemoglobin. Low levels cause the body muscles and organs to receive little oxygen. Which can leave a person feeling lethargic, sluggish and occasionally out of breath.

Additionally pumping blood requires more effort from the heart which may result in quicker or irregular heartbeats. Anemia can sometimes be caused by deficiency in vital nutrients such as iron, vitamin B12, or folic acid which are necessary for the production of healthy red blood cells. Blood loss, infections or illnesses that interfere with the production of red blood cells in the body can also cause it. Anemia treatment frequently entails identifying the root reason and then administering the required medication or dietary supplements to get the blood back to normal.

Clinical case

A pallid unconscious woman enters at Ruiz y Paez Hospital emergency room. The physician prescribes a thorough hematology and an HCG test among other blood tests. Her hemoglobin is 9 g/dl, her MCV is 71 fL, her HCM is 24 pg, her CHCM is 27 g/L, and her HCG test is positive indicating that she is expecting a child.

The woman low hemoglobin levels cause her red blood cells to shrink and lose color which is indicative of microcytic hypochromic anemia. Iron deficiency which is more prevalent during pregnancy is frequently associated with this kind of anemia. For the sake of her and the baby health her condition needs to be treated right away in order to raise her hemoglobin and red blood cell counts.

Thank you soo much dear @aviral123 for your great support

There is a lot of the part of our body that we must always pay attention to because it goes a long way to detail how we function effectively in our body system. One of it is the hemoglobin

Hi! It seems that most of the participants have suffered from anemia hehe, it's good to know that you were able to overcome it with the help of your trusted doctor and now you have a healthy baby :) this topic is very interesting and allows us to know our body even better, let's keep learning every week.
