Tension Headaches are the type of headache that is very common to us, and is often characterized by aching pain, dullness, or tightness around the head. It is a deep feeling of headache that makes someone feel very tired and lazy it comes with tightness around the head.

Symptoms:

The following are the symptoms of tension headaches:

  • Pain Characteristics: This includes; aching, dull, or squeezing pain, in which one often feels a tight band around his or her head. The pain typically affects both the head side but focuses more on the forehead.

  • Associated Symptoms: This includes mild to moderate pain that is not severe, tenderness in the neck, scalp, or shoulder muscles, vomiting, or nausea.

Causes

Tension Headaches are often caused by stress or muscle tension which has been shared below.

  • Stress: Anxiety or emotional stress can trigger tension headaches.

  • Muscle Strain: Staying in one position for a long while sitting on a desk or standing can cause tension headaches.

  • Sleep Issues: Having insufficient or poor quality sleep can cause tension headaches

  • Skipping meal: Not eating when you are supposed to eat or not eating well can cause tension headaches

  • Dehydration: Lack of fluids can cause headaches.

Treatment

Stress Management:

  • Take breaks often during work
  • Practice relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation, breath etc

Nutrition and Hydration:

  • Always stay hydrated throughout the whole day
  • Always eat healthy food if you want to eat.

Apply Cold or Heat

  • Compress can help to reduce tension
  • Warm compress can improve muscle relaxation

Medications:

  • Take pain relievers like acetaminophen, aspirin, or ibuprofen.
  • Avoid often use to stop rebound headaches.
