What do you know about gonorrhea?

Gonorrhea is the sexually transmitted disease caused by bacteria known as Neisseria gonorrhoeae. As long as a person is sexually active, they may likely be infected and transmit it to their partner. Gonorrhea is very common in today's world, where it mostly occurs through oral sex or anal sex.

Newborn babies can come into contact with the infection during childbirth. People infected with this parasite can show signs of yellow or white discharge coming out from their penis whenever they urinate. When they urinate, they will feel sharp pain to the extent that they will not feel comfortable letting the urine pass through.

What are the causes, symptoms, and effects of gonorrhea?

Gonorrhea is very harmful. When you are infected, you are likely to feel discomfort.

Causes

Gonorrhea enters our body through unprotected sex with a partner or the use of a sex toy that has not been washed or cleaned by the infected person. It is not necessary for a man to ejaculate to pass it to a woman. It has been discovered that touching an infected area caused by germs can result in gonorrhea. Humans can also be infected through the penis, mouth, and vagina of someone with gonorrhea.

Symptoms

In some cases, people will not show symptoms of gonorrhea. That's why it's difficult to discover gonorrhea until you pass it to your partner. These symptoms include the following:

• Pain when urinating, which normally occurs in both men and women.

• Men can also experience yellow or white discharge from their penis.

• Pain during intercourse with your partner.

• Pain in your anus when you defecate.

Effect of Gonorrhea

If gonorrhea is not detected early or the patient is not receiving adequate treatment, it can result in health problems that will affect our overall well-being. Gonorrhea is something very serious among women, which can lead to chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and abortion in the first trimester of pregnancy. Gonorrhea is a dangerous disease that has negative effects on the newborn, causing blindness during childbirth.

How can we prevent and treat gonorrhea?

Prevention is better than cure. We must take everything possible to protect ourselves from gonorrhea:

• Condoms play an essential role in protecting us from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). They keep bacteria away that cause gonorrhea. Continuously using a condom serves as protection against infection.

• You and your partner must be tested before having sex. If you have not been tested, visit a healthcare center together to discover your health status.

• It's good to get tested once a year if you have multiple partners.

• Reduce the number of your sexual partners to lower your risk of getting infected with gonorrhea.

• Avoid sex with someone who shows symptoms of gonorrhea, such as rash or burning during urination. Once you discover this, it's important to avoid them.

Why is it important to spread awareness about STIs?

Gonorrhea is real. In fact, it is one of the popular infections that affect young people in both developed and developing countries. Awareness can help reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections. This awareness can be organized in the local community where youth and elderly can be involved. The teams can volunteer one person to speak on their behalf about the dangers associated with sexually transmitted infections. Distribute condoms to the youths to prevent them from getting infected.

It's very important to educate secondary and primary school students about sex education, which can helps them live a meaningful, healthy lifestyle. Doing this will reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases like HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, and so on. Additionally, fliers must be distributed to the general public with a good description that will draw attention of everyone about how dangerous this infection is. This awareness will give some people the opportunity to avoid unprotected sex.

I would like to invite @solaymann, @bonaventure24 and @chant to come and participate in this contest.
