Contest: My worst/Saddest day #01 (Grieving the death of a loved one)

in Steem For Ladies2 days ago
Hello everyone, good evening to you all and welcome back to my blog. I'm so delighted participating in this awesome contest organized by @alexanderpeace. There is an adage that says that when someone else's Corpse is carried it looks like a log of wood is been carried.

what was it that made you sad or made you assume that day was your worst or saddest day

My worst day was the burial of my Maternal grandfather. Growing up, I had and known one grandparent which is my Grandfather. He was so dear to me because my mom usually sends my siblings and I to the village during the holiday to stay with him. When the news of his death was announced to us, I didn't feel the pain that much, infact I didn't even cry.

When his death dawned on me was during his burial, it was like a piece of me left me. I cried bitterly that day as I reminisces on all the memories we shared with him in the village during his life time. It dawned on me that there was no more papa to visit and Cook for, take to the hospital for routine checkups or to gist with him. After his burial I started seeing all the struggles we make in life as useless. I kept on asking what is the essence of life since we would all die someday. His death dealt with my mental health because this was the first time someone close to me died. At a point, anytime I got a call from my family members, I usually have a panic attack thinking that something bad has happened to my family members.

How did you overcome the situation?

They say that time heals pain. As time went on, I started getting over the death. The truth is that I still miss him but I can talk about it without feeling sad.

Secondly I prayed, God in Heaven has always been my consoler. I prayed to God to help me and as usual, he did wonders.

What advice would you give to people who are in similar situations or may pass through that same situation in the future.

Grief of dead loved one can happen to anyone, you can apply this following steps to heal.

  • Prayer

The importance of prayer in our lives cannot be overemphasized, pray to God about it, tell him how you feel and he should comfort you.

  • Seek for help

If it becomes overwhelming, then share how you feel to family members, friends and seek for support.

  • Self care

At this point, take care of yourself, do what makes you happy.

  • Avoid lonely places

Avoid staying alone or any place that can make you think about the deceased person.

Lastly, stay with your loved ones, it will help to fasten your healing process.

In conclusion Grief is a natural phenomen which can happen to anyone, but we can happen it appropriately to avoid harming ourselves.
Thank for reading my post, I invite @chilaw, @aspiya and @ogechukwu-martha to participate in this contest.

Thanks for your comment, about the uniform, in my culture, when someone dies, a uniform is worn by his/her loved ones to mourn him/her and that is the uniform we're wearing.
