When we consider the population has tripled, and inflation has made that value 100% higher, it's not quite as impressive.

Population has tripled since when?

Another "truth" is that the world population is still increasing, but is increasing at a rate much slower than it was say, 20 years ago.

Seems I may be off by saying tripled. It looks like it was around 4.5billion back then and now it is 8billion. So we have added 3.5billion people while redicing poverty a lot. Although 2dollars doesn't buy you as much now.
