SteemAlive Presents: "What is in a name" Its all about your name and its meaning (60 Steem Prize)
Introduction
It has been a huge success that we are able to bring to you at least one fun and educational contest each week. Our community members and Steemit friends have been amazing in their support for us. Though our prizes are not usually too big, the engagement and participation we record on our contests have been overwhelming. We say a big thank you to all those that have supported us in one way or the other.
This week, we are rolling out a brand new contest. We call it "What is in a name"? We are sure you would love this contest so much.
The contest - What is in a name?
This is one of the simplest contests we will ever run. And it is all about names. A name is not just a label. Names do have great meanings. Some names are given because of some circumstances surrounding a particular activity, such as when some was born. Some names are popular, others are hard to pronounce, etc. We just want to know the meaning of your native names and your steemit username (Assuming you did not use your name). We also want to know the name you will give your future children or if you already have children, what are their names and meaning.
So here are 4 things we want you to do in this contest
(1) What are your native names and their meaning?
(2) What is the meaning behind your steemit username (Supposing its different from your real name)
(3) If you will have 3 babies in the future, what will be the native names you will choose for them and their meaning (Assuming the 3 babies are 2 girls and a boy)? OR
For those that already have kids, what are the native names of your kids and their meaning?
(4.) Which Steemit username sounds so cute to you?
The rules
- Submit your entry as a comment on this post. Answer the 4 questions above. Please be detailed and clear in your explanations. Remember, we are asking about Native names and not English names.

My name is Nubia Nahbila.
Nubia means The rejected stone has become the chief corner stone.
This name was given because of the way my grand father was treated in his family. (Segregated) . It was like a blessing to my grand father tha he'd had a son. And the son will give him a better home.
Nahbila means. Mother has returned.
This name was given to me in remembrance of my great grand mother. My father said the night I was to be born he slept and had a dream that his grand mother (my great grand mother) came to him. He was confused so he asked her why she went and stayed long. She replied that she's back and she's come to stay.
My username is @craxywriter. I chose this name because if befits my status on my other social media handles. I am indeed a craxywriter.
Three babies.. I would name them.
Kongnikob which means Godslove
Changti(the girl) which means Happy
Ngehti which means Praises. I intend not giving my children an English name. 😁😁
The coolest name I have seen on the platform is @focusnow. Each time I read it.. it gives me some encouragement. And it serves as a "disciplinary " to me. Hahaha.
Thank you @craxywriter for participating in this contest.Your name had an age long meaning. Most native names are given basically as a result of events that played out in the past.
I am glad you will give your children native names.Native names should not die in our time.
Of course. I cannot let our culture die
So a short word like Nubia could mean;
I actually thought that the circumstances regarding your birth was that you were rejected just as the name implies 😂😂😂
I guess I was wrong and you're indeed a reincarnation of maybe the 1960s or something.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Becky.
Hahaha @beckie96830 you can say that again.
Wow...!
The rejected stone has become the chief corner stone NUBIA ,I like the name .
It has a deep great meaning.
Thank you @marydexplorer
Your name is really prophetic and biblical brother
@godsbest it is indeed prophetic. I am a girl. Not a guy 😂😂
'Nubia' alone means a complete sentence?! Only you na squad ooo!
😂😂😂@jehoshua-shey I be serious barrack!.
Hola como estas, me encanta ese significado de tu nombre Madre de vuelo es algo como los seleccionaban los antepasados es impresionante tu historia
Nubia: The rejected stone has become the chief corner stone. Your name is weighty and i hope it is reflecting on you. Nice write up dear.
#onepercent #nigeria #affable
My native name is Kolawole, I’m a Yoruba boy and Kolawole simply means bring in wealth.
My parents told me that When I was still a foetus : still in the womb. A lot of great things happened to them in the issue of finances and other wise. in summary great things happened when I was about to be born and by Gods grace they are still happening😌.
My steemit username is koladammy... actually, my other name is Damilare, so Koladammy is a combination of Kolawole and Damilare.. And besides i lowkey wish my first name was Damilare I like names starting with “Dami". LOL😅
By God’s grace if i have three babies in the future I’ll name them Dariola if it’s a girl (meaning Go ahead of wealth) , Teniola meaning spread the mat of wealth and Eniola ( meaning person of wealth)
Well the cutest or dopest username I’ve seen so far is @Doppley he’s my brother actually. And I’m not trying to be biase or partial but I just love the name.
Wow, I have learned something today from your entry @koladammy. I have been hearing that name and have yearned for the meaning. You like too much wealth. No wonder you are already proposing names with wealth for your future children, smiles.
Lol. Everyone wants wealth I guess. The names are more of a positive proclamation
@koladammy, thank you for your prompt response to my comment. I believe you that names are more of a positive proclamation. Everyone needs wealth. But must have to work for it. Most times what we need are basic necessities of life life food, clothing and shelter, other things can come as blessings. But to be wealthy spiritually is the most important thing. That means our good relationship with Jehovah is what matters most in life. Don't you think so?
I have a friend, brother, who is bearing the name Damilola, does it also mean wealth.
I can see your children's names will be centered in wealth and wealth. It's an great move and I pray your children live up to your expectations and more.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Becky.
Damilola means “blessed with wealth”
Amen, and yours too dear
Thats nice, i think we have almost thesame
partern of naming strategy, named by experience
You love wealth i must say, all your kids would have similar name i guess
LOL..... it runs in the family 😅
I can really see that
@koladammy, your name is so unique, I really love the wealth flow in all the names you chose.
Thanks a lot @talktofaith.
I love that name Dariola but if I have a daughter I don't mind giving her a Yoruba name Teniola and the male Ayomide. I've always like the Yoruba's ad such I have a lot of Yoruba friends but before I drop my pen I must say I like your name and it's effect, it's such a nice name with a good and memorable circumstance
Thanks a lot for the comment brother..... it means a lot to me
Lol...
The names you chose for your kids simply tell more about ur passion for wealth.
What's the meaning of "Dami"
You like names starting with DAMI... right..?
Not really, I’d say I like names with the presence of “ola”
You were indeed a child of wealth. Just your history tells it all. Your children will all be centered around wealth. Jus like you were to your perents.
Good to know good things happen and are still happening.
Wish your name will also have it usuall effect here by bringing more wealth to moi😂😂
Yoruba man da likes moni. All your children wealth wealth, later you will say it's Igbos that love moni. Issoryt.
Nice names. Since you like names that start 'Dami' why are you naming all your children 'Ola'? Oya answer @koladammy and teh mi da u don't like moni more dan 'Dami'
Lol
This contest is really wonderful. Steemalive rocks. I am happy to make my entry now.
My native name is Ngozichukwuka. It means God's blessings are excess. Being the last baby to my mother as she recounts God's blessings to her. She was really blessed with 3boys and 3girls. So to her, that was a way to express her appreciation when I was born.
My steemit username is @ngoenyi. It is a combination of my name and my husband's name. It it ngozichukwuka and enyinnaya. Since you already know the meaning of my name, the meaning of my husband's name is his father's friend.
My daughter's native name is chidinma, meaning God is good. She is my first daughter and so having a daughter as my first child was really a show of goodness to my family by Jehovah God. A baby girl that could assist me with house chores as she is growing up and that is exactly what she has proved to be, God's goodness.
My son's native name is onyedikachi. It means who is like God. I had planned to have only two kids but my concern was to have them mixed up, a boy and a girl. So when I was pregnant for him I wished I could give birth to a baby boy since I already had a girl. Lo and behold, it was a baby boy, I exclaimed, who is like God, that was how he was given that name.
My username is so cute and sweet to me that is why I chose to bear it in Steemit. @ngoenyi has always been so cute to me that I use it in almost all my accounts that requires username except for few. It is unique also because no one can even bear it considering the combination.
These are all beautiful names @ngoenyi
Thank you so much for observing that fact @koladammy,
Hola un nombre muy bonito y significativo y todos son relacionados a momentos historicos de la biblia
Gracias @rosanita
This is the name of my mom's elder sister but she awaits resurrection now, she was their first daughter and every time I see someone with that name it reminds me of her. @ngoenyi you really have a nice home and Jah really granted your heart desires just the way you requested for, and you also did a great job in raising your kids, you really talk a lot about your daughter I look forward to seeing her one day. Nice combination of names you got there, God bless your family
@iamdanny So sorry about your loss. All those in the memorial tomb will be resurrected as the Bible says. Jehovah is the one training the kids for us through his organization. He is blessing our little efforts. You will surely see my daughter one day. Thank you for stopping by.
Thanks for your comforting words Jehovah's word is true and we look forward to that time when all those promises will be fulfilled meanwhile I won't forget so easily where you mentioned your mother inlaw as your role model and as such following her steps and guidance, though being far I also think I'll have to emulate your's and apply it when the time comes 😃
Wow I'm so delighted to partake in this contest and also to be in the first list. Mostly in my document it's all English names but has their Igbo meanings and circumstances surrounding it.
My name is Eche Godswill Daniel and my mom do call me Uchechukwu atimes as my Igbo name and Uchechukwu means Godswill or let the will of God be done" while my dad will call me Nnanna meaning grandpa cause I was named after my grandfather Eche meaning _God never forgets us" and some will call it Echezona and that's the only native name I have in my diary but most people like calling me Daniel but that's my dad's name and we look alike and being so young it's hard for some to differentiate us so they'll call me Daniel junior and I adopted the name which means "God is my judge".
Circumstances behind the name Godswill, my mom gave me the name and say people thought she can't give birth to me accept through surgery but she said she'll when the time comes and they were preparing for the surgery when she gave birth to me and she said the will of God is not the will of men so Godswill surpassed and that's how the name comes to play. While Iamdanny is a short form of Daniel cause my friends especially my classmates like calling me Danny or young Danny instead of my real name so I adopted the name which has made many to forget my real name and prefer the name Daniel or Danny as a nickname
Hi @iamdanny nice to see your entry.Your father calls you NNANNA...you will grow very very old oo before you bite dust.
Never fear, old age is a blessing.
Do have a great moment.
Aww! Thanks so much @samuel20. I was so opportuned to meet my grandparents and my Grandpa who always call me ogbo meaning namesake, he grew so old, strong and was very intelligent. I remember how he used to address those in our compound. Was really a good memory as he led them till his death. Just wish to share from his strength and leadership quality
Wonderful entry @iamdanny, in the real sense, Eche is the shortened form of chukwuechezonam, that is why the meaning is God never forgets me or us. That's is a wonderful name. Thank you for your entry
Thanks @ngoenyi honestly I like all the my name's both the circumstances surrounding them and their meanings is all encouraging and I just hope Jehovah will never forget us
He will never provided we constantly seek his recognition and follow his directions daily. @iamdanny. Thank you for ur prompt response
The pleasure is mine. I have come to realize that which they say names play roles in person life, well I don't know how true that is but I always say let Godswill especially when I'm in a confuse state and lost of thought. With surprise he acts at the right time and I know his thought for us is always for good just like mom will always say and I'm forever grateful to him. he never forgets me 'Echezonam'
Is appreciate a lot @ngoenyi
Yes, leaving matters in God's hands is always the right decision to make. He always responds at the right time. @iamdanny
As a matter of fact @iamdanny I don't even know your Igbo name😂😂😂
It ranges from Uchechukwu to Nnanna to Echezona. Regardless all are beautiful names and your parents chose a beautiful name.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Becky.
@iamdanny you are really a Wonder, is really great to give people a surprise, even when they think your last word is contrasting to what they're seeing, you really came wonderfully.
Thanks @davchi it's obvious that men propose but God has the final say, all that is required of us is faith and surely Godswill must come surpass. Thanks for stopping by friend, the pleasure is mine
The meaning of his name is very good, our stories are very similar to each other. In my country, parents' names are also given. I think it's very nice in abbreviation name :)
This is fun indeed, steemalive all the way;
My native name is chimeremma which means "my God do me well or my God has done me well";
It was given to me by my parents because of the great fortunes and breakthrough experienced after my birth;
Another native name is uzoaku, it was given to me by my grandmum which means " road to wealth", but it is rarely called by friends , and mostly been used by my parents , immediate families and elderly parents who has known my family well;
My steemit username is dlioness which means "the female lion" the name was given to me by my secondary school teacher due to my brilliant performance in class then;
I would want to have 4 kids, 2boys and 2girls and i would love to name them by inspiration or by the experience gotten during or after their birth just as my parents did to me.
@Stephenkendal is the steemit username that sounds cute to me
I'm seeing most of names are related with God. This is great. We all are blessed by God in someway no matter what. How curious about the "female lion", dlioness sounds great 🦁 regards
Hahaha yea , it is most common among christians ,
Yea i love the name , the lion ; it portrays how brave and academically strong i can be then
That's pretty cool. 🤩 Good for you. Regards from Latin America 🌎.
@dlioness I like the 2nd name Uzoaku. Grandmoms are good with such native names.
You have beautiful native names
Yea, most people likes the name but they sounds more like village names but has lots of blessings
Chaiiii this name is sweet oooo
My God has done me well... Amenn
@dlioness This question is for your secondary school teacher. Are female lions associated with intelligence?
Pro tip: Don't name your girl-child 'Amaka'. E get Y.
I wonder what she was thinking but her intentions for the name might differ from what you think;
Hahahhah, i dont fancy the name Amaka, though its not bad; i wonder why you suggest i dont give my daughter the name
Hmn! You're wondering why I said so ba? Okay. But it's not from me you'll hear that okra soup 'use to' draw.
'Amaka?!' Nah!
Hahahaha..... you wont seize to amaze me,
Funny you
Dlioness! I have been seeing your exploit here on steem, you are indeed a brilliant being. You actually on a road to wealth, steem on
My native name is Bolade. It means "he came with wealth". My mother told me the reason for the name.
She told me that while she was pregnant of me, things were really easy. She even admitted that was the time she added a lot of weight. I saw her pictures and I almost couldn't recognize her.
My steemit username is @doppley and well..
My brother @koladammy is the brain behind it. He calls me the name as my pet name and I actually liked it.
By God's grace if I have three children in future I'll name the girl Darasimi (God is good to me), Ebunoluwa( gift of God)and Olaoluwa ( God's blessing) .
Well...I think @doppley sounds cute, that's exactly why I picked it hahahah
You were miracle child @doppley.
Another opportunity for me is here. Am so delightful to be a partaker of this contest.
What is my Native name and meaning
My native name is Chinenye which mean God's Give. But my mum like calling me Chinenye nwa which mean God Give Child.
The name was given to me after some weeks i was born, according to my parents, I was told that, 3years after their marriage no child bearing, she visited so many hospitals and church all in finding a solution to that but no way. Because of that people mocked at my mum because she had no child for over 3years of her marriage, some said, she eat up all the children in her womb. Thats makes my mum to be in pains , but still have sttong faith that God will bless her womb with children. One faithful day after crying to her God, she noticed some strange signs which lead to hospital and was tested which shows she was some months pregnant. According to her, she said the name Chinenye has already been given to me before I was born, though she dont know if is boy or girl that she will give birth. According to her, she love callinh me Chinenye nwa because is only God that gives child, everyother power may try to give child but it doesnt last, but what ever that comes from God is super and for everylasting. Am so happy to bear the name and tge name have been working for me.
My Steemit Username
@Sambee was coined Same as Before. Sam from Same, the be from before, plus the last e from same, that gives you sambee. In life, many people change when they make it in life. But for me, fame or wealth cannot change my personality so I remains original, same as before.
Native names to give my three children
If I have two (2) girls and one (1) boy.
The first girl will bear *Chinonyerem which means God is with me. Whatever I do or go, anywhere I find myself God is with me.
The second girl will bear Chinazaekpele which means God answers prayer*.
The boy will bear Ifeanyichukwu which means Nothing is too hard for God God is capable to do everything for his Children.
The steemit username that sound so cut to me.
Everyname sound so cute to me is @focusnow, just love the name, looking at thr name, it keep motivating me to keep focus in all i do.
Thank you once again @theorganizers of this contest, may God bless you all.
It is suprising and so shocking to hear what people do say when it seems one hasnt given birth after many years of marriage. This vague insult are usually been thrown at the women.
The society will live in is such that any child bearing issues lies with the woman which is very bad because sometimes too the fault could be from the man.
And the society also fail to understand an important fact that life is a gift from God.
My only native name is Nkechinyere and it means God's own gift. According to my parents I was named by my grandfather that is my mum's father and they don't really know why he chose the name but they liked it.
My steemit username @beckie96830 was coined from my English name Becky and my matriculation number 96830.
It's there to enable me to remember my matrix number as easy as possible because some students tend to forget and I don't want to be among those that do.
Kelechi- Thank God and Chinonso- God is closer to me.
Ironically Chinonso is the name of my youngest sister.
He's not just a horse but a white one and white horse portray neat and well kept horses.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Becky.
Wow those are really beautiful names .
Your name is very beautiful. You are God's own very gift. It means you are treasured by God. Wow. I admire Nigerian names slot. But not more than my own natives names. I just love being African.
Is good to know the meaning of your native name. You really tried. And those future native names are really nice. Thank you for your entry @beckie96830 (60)
I know the meaning of my name but I don't know the reason why it was chosen.
You're welcome
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Becky
You already gave your kids name before their arrival, wat if you finally have boys all through or girls all through or your experience during delivery warrants the change of names; i wonder though but loves the names chosen ;
I heard those answering chinonso are
known to be stubborn , so choose wisely
@beckie, I love your smartness in adding your mat number to your steemit username.
The names you choose for your babies are so cute.
Best wishes from @talktofaith
I like the name kamsiyochukwu it's my uncle's first son's name. And is assumed the name is usually for cute babies 😀.
Cada nombre que uno tiene es como si Dios lo seleccionara a uno a través de nuestros padres o antepasados porque son muy significativos
This is a brilliant contest from @steemalive
I wish to participate in the contest. This is because I love native names.Native names are gradually fading away these days.
•My native name is ONYEYIRICHUKWU
(Igbo origin) which means "Who resembles GOD or who behaves like GOD"
•The reason behind my username @samuel20 is because when I was much more younger.I used to hear of vision 2020 🙈🙈🙈🙈
•My two female daughters would bear CHIOMA(Good GOD)and CHIDINMA(God is good) and male child would be CHIKA(God is greater)
•The steem username that sounds funny to me is @vagabondspirit
I guess the username #vagabondspirit was used to scare village people away😂😂😂
**Onyeyirichukwu is one of the rarest names I've ever heard. For one to be named that he or she must at some point in his or her life live a life that is God like.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Becky.
Definitely ONYEYIRICHUKWU is very rare.
Can that username scare village people away?..Maybe oo 🏃🏃🏃🏃
@becky96830 thanks for dropping by.
Regards !!!
