2022

I started this year like every other normal person, my first two important tasks early in the morning of 1 January 2022, was (1) sleeping till 10:00 am, and (2) rolling on the bed till noon.

Don't judge me yet, hear me out.

It was a beautiful morning and I was on my holiday. Honestly, I deserved the rest because the year 2021 wasn't the easiest, (I'm sure you can relate.)

Last year, we started the year with Covid-19, and then the lockdown came, which was followed by rumors of wars in the Middle East particularly, after the killing of Qasem Soleimani, an Iranian major general, who was assassinated by the United States via a drone strike at Baghdad International Airport on January 3.

Similarly, this year also began with its drama, there were fears and rumors that Russia intended to invade Ukraine. (Thank God that didn't happen).

Why I'm I saying all this you might wonder, well it's in my job description to keep a tab on conflicts issues across the world.

So back to my story, after all the stress of 2021, I believe that I should take a well-deserved rest which I did. That explains the rolling on the bed for hours.

Family

When I was done being lazy, I knew I had to do several house chores, and the most pressing of them is to kill a white chicken.

In Nigeria, it's more or less a culture to kill a chicken during Easter, Christmas, and New Year celebrations. In these periods, families come around to spend time together in the spirit of festivity.

Mine was no different, several members of my family visited and it was awesome seeing them again after several months and even years.

Strangers become family

A few days before the New Year festivities, I was in Port Harcourt where I spent the Christmas. I met a lot of people who became more or less a family to me. We spent Christmas together, laughing, talking and gisting about life in general. It was fun.

It all started with enjoying each other's company, and that starts with conversation. Laugh together. Talk whenever when we can. Learn about the other person and appreciate them as you do. When someone shares something about themselves or their lives it's a gift, respect that. With time, trust and mutual respect grows.

Lesson learnt is that Love isn't something that you can decide to do by turning on a switch and have it happen. It's a gradual process, and it builds with every conversation.
